Hi all. I understand this is not directly a VDJ question, however this is a large, well informed community and I will eventually run it with VDJ...

I would love to upgrade my DDJ SX2 (had it since it release), however the SZ2 doesn't seem like a worth while upgrade on the original SZ. Im not opposed to moving to Denon but have had a great experience with the SX2. Is anyone aware or know of any sites that talk about upcoming controller rumors? Would love to know whats in the pipe line in the coming year or 2. The RZX seems cool (once VDJ mapping is available), just so big for me to lug around on mobile gigs.

Any comments are greatly appreciated.

I bough an SX2 first, then got myself an RZ. Still got both, using whichever suits the need best.

MCX8000 is a good controller if you need clear mic channels. The VDJ mapper appears to be excellent however the standalone mode has been left to die by Denon as Engine in it's current form is pretty much unusable.

Any rumors on future controllers?

Not that I've heard. They usually get announced at the trade shows then take months to get to market so there's no point waiting for that.

I don't think VDJ will support the RZX because of the video screens and Pioneer locking their controllers to Rekordbox. It's insanely expensive anyway.

Yeah, that's a valid point and a concern of mine. As controllers get more complex, will that limit VDJs ability to adopt for the platform? Especially since it seems like pioneer may have found a way to block third parties out.

Well, they also did that on the SZ2, and that is now supported (I think VDJ reversed engineered it to make it work)
So the blocks normally doesn't hold for long
But of course they may be getting better

My suggestion would be to forget about what hardware may be coming in the future, and buy something that's already supported by VDJ.

When new hardware is announced, it often takes months before it's available to buy, then another delay before it's natively supported.

If you want a replacement sooner rather than later, choose from the 'supported controllers' list.

Do you think we could reach a stage where the manufacturers, such as Pioneer, could block third party softwares from using their controllers? Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the last time a controller came with VDJ 8 was when the DDJ SZ came bundled with it. I actually thought this might have been a turning point for VDJ and that it would mean that it would be included with more controllers, but sadly this wasn't the case. It's brilliant that the guys at VDJ work hard to make sure that most controllers will work with it, but I find it disappointing that VDJ always seems to be left out in the cold.

I have a feeling that Serato is paying an obscene lot of money to get their name stamped on the box
And yet suddenly they are left out in the cold by Pioneer - the biggest HW brand - because they want to sell Rekordbox
I don't think VDJ will gain much by going in that direction

@ groovindj - agreed, and I'm not in a rush to get something new. More just curious what's in the pipeline. The SX2 is a workhorse, no real complains other than the lack of pioneer best and color fx. Well see if/ when VDJ suppports the RZX, that may end uo being my next move. Its been out a while already so maybe well see it supported by year end?!

@ Klaus- I also agree that it probably doesnt make to get in that rat race of paying to have tour name stamped on it. However as the VDJ guys mentioned in the past, pioneer has locmed the screens of the rzx and they were not able to adopt it easily. I'm sure pioneer spents A LOT of money trying to keep third parties out now that they have a hand in the software game.

They've done that for all but simply MIDI for a long time now on their controllers. Other HW companies do the same
But usually Atomix manages to reverse engineer it, and support it in VDJ anyway
Exceptions to this may come where Atomix has to give up - but I don't think it has happened yet

Hi guys very good subject! first of all I'm the guy who like VDJ more than other competitors software and I'm the first who would not like that VDJ loose this game in this digital world! there is couple reasons why I still using the Vdj ? tag music is easy the best browser plus playlist is the best VDJ running smoothly even on older computers ,much more space on the screen ,skin friendly and for other more reasons etc...
But I would be very sad if VDJ does not support Pioneer controllers, because they are the best quality and which I got used to..
how I can seen and been talking long time ago I could see this happening right now and that is the time will come to get away from the laptops
This is what I have posted:Posted on Sat 22 Nov 14 @ 9:01 pm How I could see I think the computers gonna be built in the Controllers very soon I ques...

Just FYI: I had a controller with LCD display back in 2001.
Then I got a second controller with LCD display at 2006 :P

Controllers with LCD displays are not something new.

Phantom dj I' did not think about just normal lcd displays I have ment for software Based controllers like pioneer xdj rx independed controllers! That woould be nice to see with VDJ!

Yes, standalone units with their own operating system and screens existed before 2014 too!

E.G. Both the Numark D2 Director and Denon HD2500 (with its own internal hard drive) were 2007.

True, unit with displays are nothing new. All us old skool DJ's have had them in the past, however the displays disappeared and those that did were not supported.

I miss a display, particularly for "remaining time" indication.

PS,

Wasn't the DAC2 the original controller?

I think the Alcatech RCP controllers for BPM Studio were the first ones out. The PCDJ ones were slightly later from what I can remember.

Numark's DMC1 was first, for Visiosonic (PCDJ). Connection was via serial port. Ancient stuff!
