No. Atomix rarely do that, especially for something that is announced as being for Serato or Rekordbox
These units are made together with Serato, so they will probably be blocked for all other software than Serato, except for the standard midi parts, which is only half the story these days
So the first thing that normally happens is, that when someone on the VDJ hardware team gets a hand on the units, they will start reverse engineering them to disable the block. When that work is (hopefully) sucessfully completed, Atomix can start making a mapper for it. The last part is usually done really fast
But if you buy the units and are willing to help test a VDJ mapper for them, if/when it becomes available, I'm sure Atomix would like to hear from you
If not, then it's just a matter of waiting until they (hopefully) get on the "natively supported" list:

Incorrect - these units are not made for Serato. They're made to run standalone and for Engine Prime prepped sticks. They do have a "midi button box" mode that will at some point down the road be compatible with Serato (they are not as of yet).
As for Atomix, I'd be happy to help the dev team start decoding these players, as I think that would be a rather nice feather in Virtual's cap to beat Serato to the punch!

You are right that they work with Engine Prime - but Serato tells sthe story more like it's a partnership IMO:

Standard MIDI is probably not going to be enough to support HID or the screens on these units. But Atomix have overcome such issues before :)

I've got the MCX8000 and Engine 1.5 is one of the worst pieces of software I have ever used.
Engine prime was rushed together to meet the release date for these players and it is an incomplete buggy mess by the looks of it.
Denon have seriously dropped the ball with their software, but the hardware certainly seems to be excellent quality.

Still, DENON has not released any computer communication protocol details for SC-5000 Prime.
My own personal guess is that Denon wants to push these units as stand-alone players first before allowing PC communication.
In other words, it wants users to perceive them as stand alone media players that can compete against Pioneer's CDJ's on club scene, and not as expensive controllers. That's why I believe the "controller" part of the unit is on hold.
Anyway, this is just my own personal guess.

But what is the impression on Denon?
Do they normally lock their hardware to specific software, or will it be totally open once they release the documentation?

Generally, except for controllers that are made for Serato, Denon wouldn't lock any features on their gear.
This piece of equipment does not have any Serato logo on it (it's not made for Serato), yet Denon advertises that Serato support for this player will come soon. (You can find some info on Denon website regarding this, plus a big Serato logo)

That's fair enough, because that's what they are. Designed to play music from USB and SD card.
It baffles me why anyone would be willing to spend £3000 for a pair of these, then want to use them as controllers. Ditto for any other hardware designed primarily for stand-alone use, like the Pioneer CDJ-2000 or XDJ-1000. There are far cheaper (and often more versatile) options for controlling DJ software.
People might say "well it's only as a fallback" but IMO with players like these, you shouldn't need a fallback.
For a start, each one has two layers, so even if one dies completely you can carry on without a hitch.
My HS5500's had the same system (and were far cheaper). They never gave me cause for concern, at any gig.

I have been using the Denon Prime software for a few weeks now and haven't ran into any problems using it with windows 10.
It is not buggy at all like the old Denon engine 1.5. (That I cannot use at all it is so bad).
As for why anyone would want to use the SC-5000 as a controller, I can see one reason. They do not have an HDMI output for video.
If you need to play video's, then you still need a laptop. I do believe that according to the user manual the units will play an mp4 file. (I have not tested this).
Of course that would be audio only.
So if serato support is available soon, then it stands to reason that you can use serato video as well on your laptop with these units. My experience with Serato video
is nowhere as good as VDJ. Not even close.
Another reason why anyone would pay so much for these prime units has become clear to me as I use mine side by side with my MCX8000. The audio quality is incredibly better than the MCX8000 which is really good to start with. I have never heard any unit that compares to the new SC5000 in audio quality. It is truly amazing how good they sound.
And bells and whistles aside, when it comes down to it, what your audience is hearing outways how great these units look. Only the DJ sees all that. Your audience only knows what it hears.
