Before updates are released i.e when in Beta, how is it tested before release? Do you know how many users are testing it, with what controllers and for how long, or are bugs really only found after general release?
What determines when it goes from beta to general release?

At this stage, the company is addressing the bugs that have been reported, as the software is quite stable. The developers pick a bug, make a fix, if it works they give to the alpha team, if it works the beta team gets it. If it fails during any of these phases, they start over. If it makes it pass the beta team, they release. This is done with a variety of scenarios and controllers. This is a common practice everywhere. I believe the amount of beta testers is irrelevant, because nothings perfect. Giant companies have millions of beta testers, and bugs still go through. Apple released a phone that you could not hold and make a call, because you hand covered the antennae. Companies are constantly making fixes, it's a part of life. I let the smart people take care of the software, while I spend my time thinking about my next mix.
