The above link gives an interesting read at DJ Tech Tools. Don't think VDJ 8 is as bad as the results suggest though!!

I probably should be careful over this post but what the hell.
I was trained as an engineer, and precise mathematics dominated the discipline, however the normal fiddling was conducted, but that's another story.
Musicians often change the key mid song, as was the case with Come On Eileen by Dexy's Midnight Runners. The Beatles did key changes mid song, one example being A Day in the Life.
Song key changes are ok !
It's about what sounds good.
So what we have is a group of people pushing the line that a song has a key.
Well maybe, to a certain extent, but song construction is a human art, and people like Vincent Van Gogh come along and throw the stupid rule book out of the window.
Just like the shyster Economists who never foresaw the 2008 banking crash, we have those pushing the line that a key is an exact science.
Musicians don't construct perfect songs, their work is an art.
A songs key is a very loose guide to what the song is going to sound like.
I picked on a compilation album called "The Greatest Hits Ever" and looked for the original key of the songs on the INTERNET, and then compared them to VDJ 8's analysis. Out of a group of @ 15 half were approximately correct. That's not a bad result for something that is an art.
Any that claim 100% cheat.
We only seek a guide, our ears must perform the judgment as to whether things sound good.
Disclaimer : This post is created by someone with an engineering background, but let's see how those with a traditional music background respond.
I might learn !

Well done. I think you got a wrong name. Use A angry man and his micro instead ;o)))
I can't understand the problem at all. If somebody wants to use MIK, then use it. Put the key-info in the comment and build some smart folders based on. So it's your decision what you use.
Absolute agree.

Our ears and the audience we play to are the best Detection of what's good at the time it's being played, the audience do not give a flying fig what key it's in or what it's being played on - it just has to feel good

I played 20 years with vinyl, and yes, you are right, it just has to feel good.
But if I play with DJ-software that has filters, cue-points, sync, a sampler, video-mixing, browser, and so on, it has to work as a Swiss watch.
Just to let it feel much better!
