Topic: Schiit MODI 2 UBER

I have purchased a Schiit Modi 2 UBER DAC (Digital to Analog Converter) to run between my laptop and an amp. Do I need a licenses for this to work? I have an issue where I do not get any sound from the speakers, but I do get the bass tones from the sub-woofer. Is this a software issue or a license issue?
