Hi,
Ever since i downloaded the software i was using default skin for two decks
then i bought the hercule RMX and installed the skin, but frankly i dont like it...
i like the machine not the skin. I like the way default sink displays the keys.
do you work with default skin ? does it matter a lot not to use custom ?
i'll change the key mappings but will wait for your thoughts :)

I recommend a 4 deck skin, decks 1&2 being full decks, and 3&4 being mini decks.
I don't do 4 deck mixes, I suspect few do, but I load up scratch samples, or whatever on the mini decks.
You will find 4 overlapping waveforms unmanageable, hence use the wave options to display just the 2 full decks.
DjDads latest skin is of this type, there are many.
It is important in my eyes to have a independent sampler controller such as the Akai APC mini, although I use an F1.
The sampler can be used for a variety of things from a drum machine, through to an extra deck. I load my birthday songs there in a special folder.
Er I never use the default skins.
It is important to understand the mappings, and be able to manipulate them to suite your needs, especially if you ever start using cdj's.

Are you using Virtual DJ 7 LE version?
If so, I don't think you can change the skin anyway .......

Hm I should have noticed that, you need a suitable licence, and vdj7 is inferior to 8.

That's not entirely true Ron, VDJ7 still has lots of users as some of the features never made it over to 8.

The vast improvement in the sampler alone justifies my statement.
This has neutralized the superiority of the Traktor remix decks.
In VDJ7 the sampler is like a toy.

Let's not get in to hijacking this thread but the sampler is only a very small part of it, and something I have never used.
Putting an air horn over your track is for 12 year olds.

So you don't supplement the bass, or high hats to suit your needs like other DJ's such as Beatbreaker?
You never do any finger drumming?
I can do a remix on the fly using the sampler.
I've took slow songs of around 60bpm, doubled the beat, dropped bass lines in, and other elements hence totally remixing a song.
You have trivialized an important DJ tool because you don't use it, or alternatively don't know how to use it.
That's your loss.

@Ron, open up a separate thread if you wish concerning the V8 sampler, you have gone way off topic from the original posters request.
I'm sure you'll get a lively debate not just on the audio side but video as well on the sampler for V8.
