Hey guys... I'm excited to see your progress in the DJ scene and I am considering switching from Traktor to you guys. However, I have a couple questions...

1. MIDI Clock is very important to me... do you guys have MIDI clock with your software?

2. I sometimes use a variety of hardware, which is why your natively supported system is perfect... however what do you guys mean by natively supported? I know that for Traktor I would have to restart the DDJ SX2 into 'MIDI mode' for full capabilities with Traktor. Will hardwares such as the DDJ SX and DDJ SZ work right out of the box with Virtual DJ?

3. My personal setup is Technics 1200s with a 4 channel mixer + 2 Traktor X1s. Do you guys recommend keeping my traktor vinyl or buying your VDJ vinyl?

4. What is the best way of purchasing your software? Should I just go all the way with VDJ Infinity or purchase individual licenses?

Thanks a lot!

5. I have A LOT of songs on Traktor that have very intricate loops and cue points... When I switched from Serato, Traktor had a program that allowed me to convert all my serato cue points into their software. Do you guys have a similar system?

Thanks again!

1 - Yes
2 - Yes
3 - Not sure, you could always try the Traktor vinyl to see if it works OK
4 - Not sure what you mean by individual licences?
5 - Don't think so!

You could subscribe for a month to try the full software out on all of your hardware without time limits.
I believe VDJ supports your vynil, it does not support the Traktor timecode CD's. I do not have a turntable to test my Traktor vynil with.

Great. How exactly would I go about setting up the MIDI clock to see how it works?

When I try to configure my SL4 (kept it from serato) with virtual DJ, it says that I need a 'timecode license,' which is about 100 and something dollars. Just wondering if it was a cheaper alternative.

This is the account I was using before by the way... I think I should delete the LNDO music one. Sorry for the confusion.

It says you have a Pro account. Did you try logging into V8 with the last account you posted from?

I have a PRO basic license purchased a while ago.

I know you could use different sound cards with basic, but I don't remember what the limitations were. I'm thinking that timecode required the full (now Infinity) license.
Also, I think the PRO subscriber will let you do timecode. I cannot verify tho. But, $100 more may be worth it to you instead.

Sounds good. Now the MIDI clock... is there a way to engage it somehow?

Thanks!

Go to controller page, select controller and right click it (I think)

I'm assuming it works on Mac too. I use PCs so I can't confirm.

Open the VDJ 8 config and select 'controllers'. In the list of connected hardware, you should see your MIDI interface(s) listed along with your controller(s).

Simply right click on the interface you wish the MIDI clock signal to use, and select "Midi Clock Output".

As mentioned, if you're linking one software prog to another then your "interface" will be a virtual (soft) one.

I found this in a related thread.

Apparently, I didn't refresh and see your post.

An extra point is that as you get used to VDJ then you will modify the native midi controller, and keyboard commands to suit your need.
It's fairly easy.
I've done all sorts of modifications.
In a nutshell you will want your own unique system given time.

This topic pops up from time to time. How many times have you seen it Keith? Why sweat the skin? As stated, you can use another one. Don't sweat the small stuff. Sweat the functionality of the software. Which, for me personally, has always done exactly what I needed it to do.

hello

Hey guys, I'm a bit confused. I wanted the VDJ software to send its own MIDI clock signal to Ableton Live. Is that possible?

Thanks.

Mac or windows?

1- Yes
2- Yes, right out of the box as long as the necessary drivers are installed on your OS. Also for all units that ship with Serato you DON'T have to restart the unit in "Generic MIDI" mode. We use the "Serato mode"
3 - You can keep your vinyl. Both editions work fine. However, buying another pair of VirtualDj 8 vinyls won't do any harm... ;)
4 - For the way you work I would say "PRO Infinity" You will only once and never again. Different licenses mean that you'll have to purchase a separate license for every piece of hardware you may come up to.
5. VirtualDj has the ability to read cue-points from Traktor and Serato when they are saved inside the tags of the songs. For Traktor it works fine for 95% of our users. So you need to try it. For the rest 5% we're investigating why some times the cue-points won't import properly.
