I'm not much into the whole FX controller thing, so I don't know much about it. However, using effects (wisely) is crucial in my sets. Would an FX controller work with a USB controller? If so, how, and what are the best ones on a budget?

I use a Zomo MC1000 its not a stand alone effect unit but a controller minus a mixer section and I just mapped all the buttons and knobs to the effects in VDJ I paid about $125 for it 2 years ago and it comes with its own copy of VDJ

I use a Korg Nanopad. Very easy to assign pads and scenes to certain effects or loops. You can pick them up now for about $20
