I recently signed up to the Content Unlimited service and am really happy with it so far. It pretty much gives me every song I throw at it so all good there BUT I find it very frustrating that it will only show a maximum of 30 results per search - yes I know that you can narrow down the results but putting in more specific information in the search bar but if your looking for a particular song by an artist who has released more than 30 songs and can't remember the song title you don't really stand a chance of finding is (unless by pure luck it appears in the first 30 results!)

Does anyone know why there is this restriction of 30 in the results or is there a way to increase this?

Also is there a way to show track length's / BPM's in the results rather than having to analyse / load a track to get this information? Personally I would of thought this information would of been and obvious thing to include in the results but maybe I've not got it set up correctly ?

It seems that you asked this question about the 30 track limit before, and got an answer here. Did you forget? In reality, how important is a song, if you can't remember what the name is, or any part of the name? Sounds like one of my guest, asking for a request. As for the bpm and other info, the tracks are not analyzed, until they are in VDJ, and analyzed.
 
blimey you've got a good memory !! I did remember being told there was a 30 track result limit but the question above was more aimed at WHY is it so restrictive I mean I load my songs in the browser and there's 1000's not just 30. also the 2nd part of my last post was relating to the BPM's / lengths of tracks being shown in the results as well but I suppose as you said I could just manually analyse them (it wouldn't take long as there's only 30 to do !!)

hello Mr DJ have you got that track by Aretha Franklin

Mr DJ:
what track do you mean there is hundreds by her

Guest:
Its a bit gospelly If I saw the name I'd know it

Mr DJ:
ok have a look on my screen and see if you can see it (Mr DJ enters Aretha Franklin as the search criteria)

Guest:
nope its not one of those 30 tunes can you do another search

Mr DJ:
nope sorry it will only show me 30 results even though she's done tons of tracks

Whilst I accept the above example may be a bit over the top - it has happened, as a DJ I know a far bit about my particular Genre of music but I'm not the font of all knowledge and also not a mind reader which is why I use search engines to find out stuff I don't know.

Just imagine doing a google search and only getting 30 results maximum - I would say that was very limited NOT Unlimited !
 
......but then on the other hand, we're DJs. We're expected to have a good collection of tracks ourselves.

Tracks that cover most eventualities. For mobile DJs that means a bit of everything.

IMO Aretha Franklin is well known enough that any DJ should already have way more than 30 tracks by her - so the situation shouldn't arise.

I don't use Content Unlimited because I reckon that my collection of tracks is good enough now to handle almost any gig. Yes, sometimes I still do get asked for things I don't have. Now & then I even get a surprise when I find something missing that I assumed was in my collection! It's not a HUGE collection but it's wide and varied.

However, I don't consider it essential that I must find and play whatever it is that the punter wants. Usually they'll accept another track as a substitute.

If all else fails, there's no shame in admitting you don't have it. :-)

BTW I just checked and I've got 35 Aretha tracks.





 
Hmmm perhaps using Aretha as an example wasn't the best artist to use in the effort to try and make a point then ! (I have just check mine for her and have 342 !!)

I do agree as a DJ we should have a good selection of music which I have, but the collection will never be complete especially with new releases the youngin's all seem to know but as a wrinkly I've usually never heard of ! I also agree it does no harm to admit you haven't got a particular track and playing a substitute usually placates the guest.

but whilst all this is interesting debate I still do not know why we are restricted to just 30 results on searches, like I said before its not exactly 'unlimited' is it?
 
It should be adequate to get you out of a hole though, which is the raison d'etre of the service. It's not there to give you a cheap library.

I see it like this - if someone asks for a track you've not heard of, chances are that others won't know it either, so is it even worth playing?

Either it's old and obscure (popular tracks should be in your collection anyway) or it's so new that the person asking is the only one who knows it.

Furthermore, if you're using CU then you've got online access so it's just as easy to Google for a full discography and find the track that way.
 
Groovin, everything you say is totally valid and in my opinion makes complete sense BUT it still doesn't answer my original question - which was

WHY ARE WE RESTRICTED TO JUST 30 RESULTS ???

You've helped me out loads in the past on various posts I've made and I've come to hold you in high regard with your opinions and knowledge and now I find out you can speak French as well - is there any end to your talents !!

(meant in jest before someone has a pop at me !!)

I guess once a decision has to be made about the number of search results.
And i think the person with the lagerst number of stars here made a ruling....
( As i said... just a guess :-)
 
When using the default VDJ 8 skin at native 1920x1080 resolution, with the font size at minimum, guess how many tracks can be seen in the browser?

29 on a 2 deck skin and 24 on a 4 deck skin but they both have a vertical scroll bar to show lots more if they are there!

I'm starting to think the reason for the 30 track limit is classified as a secret and I will only find out in 75 years once its been de-classified !

Am I the only one of the millions of users that finds this restrictive? If so I will get me hat and leave the building (shut up about it in other words!)
 
I find this limit not to be useful either, maybe there is a Limit to Unlimited after all, if you do a search in Netsearch, you will get 50 results not 30 like in CU, but you may not be able to download what you need if you find it there because the bonus part of your subscription doesn't work all the time...)-: Frustrating...
 
I purchase the content unlimited and i'm not seeing the license code how do i get it?

There is no license code. In virtual DJ you need to login with you forum user acount.
