What is everyone's opinion on using VirtualDJ for karaoke? Currently I use Karma but through their software I can only buy 1 song at a time from various web sites. I'd like to use 1 program for both DJ/KJ and the unlimited karaoke content seems to be a route I'd like to try.

I haven't tried VirtualDJ for karaoke yet and I have quite a few songs I've collected over the years via purchases of cd's, downloads, etc.

Most of my shows switch from Karaoke to DJ on the fly and I am concerned about having problems during a show. I use one or 2 external monitors using HDMI or RCA jacks, or a combination of both. I run everything through a high end laptop to a mixing board and external equalizer with a real time analyzer built in. I use a standard monitor next to my equipment for the performers and sometimes I'll need to split the video out to a larger TV next to my stage.

What do people think overall? I don't really like buying a song at a time during a show right now but I'm afraid to try VirtualDJ by itself because some of the feedback on the forums.

Any advice? I'm not tide to Karma even though I bought it, I just want my shows to run smoothly.

Thanks in advance,

Gunner

I have been using VJD at my DJ and Karaoke show for years. It's very easy to use and it work well. Go for it

Thanks for the reply, is there anything special I have to do to use additional external monitors? some are HDMI and some are RCA. Thanks in advance. I didn't see a whole lot in the manual on the Karaoke side of things; are there any plugin's that would help? I have several external devices that will split the video; they handle a combination of HDMI and RCA plugs. Also does anyone know if the Karaoke unlimited subscription has any of the new music out? My current library contains music from the 1940's through some current songs which I had to purchase one at a time. If the unlimited karaoke subscription doesn't include new stuff then I already have most of what I need. I did get some feedback from some singers that they were at another show and the KJ had some very new stuff out there that I hadn't bought. Thanks in advance.

Hi Gunner, yes 8 works great with karaoke. Of course you know to extend your desktop to other TV's, and VDJ8 seems to take care of everything else. I use both HDMI and VGA to RCA, but not at the same time, although with more converters this should be possible. VDJ8's key changer is the best I've heard, simple, and instant, with the lock or return on load feature. Also be aware you can lock the key and increase or decrease the pitch (tempo) for added fun at times. Singer list is a little different. To get the singer list started, you have to drag a song into it. Then a button appears that you click on to add the singers name. I just drag the same song into the singer list a bunch of times, remove everything from the title bar at the top, except singer, then I type in my rotation singers. The automix background music feature works great, although it took some studying of the manual for me to understand completely how to use it. When a karaoke song ends, the background music mixes in until the next karaoke song is started. Each time the background music starts, it uses a new song, it doesn't continue the previous one. I just put together a playlist of 25 or so songs and load it into the automix and forget it. It will probably take you some manual study time, but I think you'll really like it. PS: you can also use all the video and audio effects, as well as your sampler with this. I don't know much about Karaoke Unlimited, but I just searched for River Bank, and All About That Bass, and they both showed. That's up to date within the last month, Virtual DJ is on top of things. Greets.:-)

Thanks for the info and help!

Is there a way to save karaoke singer history from different clubs and then drag them into the rotation? I'm trying to figure out how to maintain a singers list from each club and then I can pull up the songs they sang before and load them in the rotation. Currently I am able to maintain singers and their song list under the club name, and I just load that club name list which preloads all the singers and their song history for that club.

I'm trying to stay away from adding a singer for every show at different clubs if they have sang at one of my shows before. For example, at Mustang's I usually get the same singers every week and they usually sing some or all of the same songs. I'd like to not have to add them as a new singer every week and then have to help them try to remember what they sang before, then do a search, then re-add them to the rotation.

With a lot of singers that can be very time consuming during a busy show when I don't have time to "re-invent the wheel". Any suggestions or help to point me in the right direction? I'm still going through the manual but so far I can't find anything that will show me how to do this. I have a show later this week and am trying to manually move my singers and their songs over to VirtualDJ from Karma and I don't want to lose that information for the following week/show. Thanks in advance.

Gunner there may be a way in 8 to do that, but I don't think so. Some KJ's like to save the history, but in the 15 years I've been a KJ, I've never done it. Back in the disc day, it would get a little clumsy at times. But with 8, it takes about 3 seconds to type a name, and 8 seconds to find and load a song, and that's fast enough for me. Using slips with singer name and song title, you already have all ya need, IMHO. Greets:-)
