Topic: No Cue Points - Page: 1

Apologies if this has been posted before but I can't seem to find anything via the search.

I have started to use VDJ8 and so far liking it - one of the main issues I am having at the moment is that none of my cue points from VDJ7 show up on any of the tracks.

Is there a way to get these back? (They do still show if I open VDJ7 so I'm thinking its a library thing)?

Many thanks

They should show fine.. Did you install Vdj8 on same pc?

yep both versions on same PC

maybe the import of the v7 database got interrupted or somehow didnt finish..
No cue points from v7 show at all ?

And you still have VDJ 7 on the PC? If so delete database.xml in My Documents/VirtualDJ. (And do NOT delete VirtualDJ Database v6.xml)
After that delete FOLDER on each drive (except for C:/) that are named VirtualDJ
For example D:/VirtualDJ

After that reopen VDJ 8 and let it run for a bit, so it can successfully import your v7 database

hi - thanks for the replies

Nope no cue points show at all - I tried the same track in 7 which show 6 cue points then loaded into 8 and nothing.

I'm going to boot up my gig pc to see if its the same on there and I will try what you've suggested to see if that resolves it and post back

Thanks again

Hi many thanks for the advice - that's worked perfectly I'm all cued up now !

Could I just ask for some more advice on this please topic please.. I recently copied all my tracks over to a new gig pc and whilst checking this re the above, I noticed there are no cue points at all on it. I'm assuming this again is because of the database file being different?

Can I just copy over the database file on my main pc to the gig pc to sync everything up?

Thanks again

yes...as long as the drives names and path is correct...

Thanks Rob

The path on my main PC is C:\Users\paul.cooke\Documents\VirtualDJ

and on my Gig PC C:\Users\MobileDT\Documents\VirtualDJ

as they are not exactly the same I'm assuming this is a no go?

sorry my answer was not very in detail...
i ment the drivename and the path of your music libary..;-)

in theory yes, but needs to have same file path for success... although vdj does a good job at even fixing this..
You can try and see... might work well ..

A better way would be to get an external drive, and move your music from your old pc over to the external drive, USING VIRTUALDJ to do so.
This would ensure 100% success in moving database info over ...
And another advantage is that you could plug this external drive to any pc running VDJ, and have all info there ;)

Agree...that is at least to me, the best way by far...

thanks guys I really appreciate your help on this..

I will try to copy the database file over first as obviously that's going to be the fastest option - hopefully it works

If not I will go for the external drive option but not to sure what you mean by doing that process through VDJ ?

VDJ browser can move and copy files..
Use the vdj browser to move all to external drive was what I meant ;)

ok thanks - I will post back as soon as I see what works

Thanks again

Ahhh Perfect - Thanks Rob

ok just to update

I have moved over most of my files via an external drive and put them onto the gig pc. some of the files have retained their cue points but the problem is not all of them have.

I have checked back on my main pc to make sure a specific track has got cue points (which it has) but these don't show on the other pc.

Do I need to also copy the database file onto the gig pc as well? On my external drive it created a folder called VirtualDJ with a database file in this folder

one other question regarding the file operation copy to option - does this only work via the browser window? Or can it work via the folders tree? I tried the folders tree but nothing would copy across, which is a pain as there are a few thousand albums in there which I would like to copy over as well.

Hopefully this makes sense ! thanks for any further advice you can offer.

The old PC -> moved to external drive
Using VirtualDJ 7 or VirtualDJ 8 ?

and from external drive -> to gig pc ..
Did you use VDJ to move the files here too?

And lastly.. why did you not just use the external drive for all future ;) but ok

Thanks for the quick reply

ok so I moved the files to the external drive using VDJ8 file operations as above earlier in the thread
In hindsight reading your reply I think the flaw in my process is I then just copied the files off the external drive using windows explorer onto the gig pc.

in answer to your last point - which is a very good one ! I have no idea why I just didn't do this either lol call it one of those getting old moments when you just forget all logic and go the complicated route ! As I plan to move over to using VDJ8 completely now its a bit more stable (own opinion, I appreciate others have different views but it works for me.) I wanted to get everything setup right - call it a clean slate. But I will certainly be looking at getting a suitable external drive and going this route once I have one (any suggestions on brand type??)

yeah thats probably why it didnt go so well .. .

Dont have to use external drive, but would make life easier for future use..
If you do not want to use for now, try copy inside VDJ from external to gig pc..

any external drive should do, and they are reasonably cheap to get by now .. .
But again, its perfectly fine not to use external drive, just makes things a bit easier should you change PC again in future, or just hooking up your music to other DJs pc etc.
