Rather than having Home Free, Pro Full, LE. Pro Basic, Broadcaster etc etc.
So you are right, everyone downloads exactly the same piece of software. This is why the login in crucial - by logging in, it unlocks all the features relevant to your license. If you don't login you are effectively running the Home (Free) version of the software which has limitations on controllers and sound cards etc.
