Hello I'm thinking about adding a projector to my set up. Anyone use a projector if so how do you like it? Whare did you get it? What kind of screen do you project onto? Thank you.

I use a Da-Lite 6x8 rear projection screen and a Vivitek HD 3200 lumen projector. I have had the screen for over a decade and still looks great.

I've been using a Epson EX7200 via HDMI for several years and although it gets the job done, I would recommend a short throw.
Spend the extra money and get the picture quality, lumens and short throw. BenQ makes a nice product but they are close to a grand.
As for the screen, you can make your own and save a few bucks (I don't suggest this) or you can buy one thats made for mobile DJ's in mind-

I've also got a projector and a few different sized screens - but if I were just getting into it now, I'd buy a large LCD TV instead.
There are limits to setting up a projector system, but a TV works pretty much anywhere. Probably cheaper these days too (even two TVs).

I don't know how much you know about projectors but they come in different intensities. So before you buy anything you need to consider what is the most frequent type of setup you intend to use your projection kit in. I'm talking venue size. Small screens get swallowed in big halls.
For both large or small venues if you intend to throw your image across the room from one wall to another you will need something around 3500 to 4000 lumens to do an effective job. Most projectors with that kind of output will give a good image in lit rooms and even more vivid in the dark. The lighting during an even can change depending on what is happening and you'll want the image to remain clearly visible during both.
I.M.O buying below 3500 lumens is a waste of time BECAUSE with mobile djing you never know what's going to be possible because you are constantly changing venue...things won't always fit. I'm assuming you are mobile but I know for sure that you want to be ready to handle most situations.
Short throw projectors are nifty but consider that in most cases the projector will be just a few feet away from the screen and visible to the audience. So then you might want to do a rear projection to hide that. Does your machine have rear projection capability, table and ceiling mount options, front AND rear, remote or manual focus and zoom, lens shift? You have to find out before you buy.
It is usually a good idea to rent and try before you buy whenever possible.
If you can afford a machine with a lens shift and remote image adjustment features get it. Focusing your image can be time consuming depending on the setup. Usually it boils down to price and that goes for small companies to larger companies with truck loads of gear so don't feel intimidated.
Good machines are not cheap.
Don't waste your money fooling around with little rinky dink machines that you have to manually focus and zoom. The day you have to do a large room you will be right back at the av shop to RENT a capable projector.
You don't need a $10, 000 dollar machine but it's best to save your pennies and buy a decent high output projector with remote control focus, zoom and lens shift. Then you will be able to mount your machine from the ceiling if you have to, throw an image from the front or back, use the same machine to do different screen sizes etc.
For small rooms I always use l.e.d screens. They are super light weight, give a fantastic image and there is zero focus time. Plus, you can dress them up with frames. You can dress up projectors as well, I have pictures frames for both screens types.
I personally don't use spandex projection screens. I find they look tacky but if you decide to swing that way it's not a bad investment as it is low cost and versatile. You can project from both front and rear. Otherwise, check ebay for a Dalite or Fast Fold kit. You can also build a frame and buy the projection films or spandex.
Good luck.

have you ever stacked projectors? I have ... so make sure the lines of convergence are exactly set and the cross hairs in line too.. it works wicked well , but if your off just a bit your show is a blur.

Here is the rear projection screen I made. I hang it from two T-bar light stands and I use a infocus short throw projector.
