This is one reason I hate adapters 
. This is the reason I always carry one of these. 
. This could have failed on me last night. It's a good thing I bought this controller in to practice today, or it would have failed on me tonight. On my way to radio shack to pick up two more, one is black. They do not get the best rating, so that is why I'm getting two.

Why haven't manufacturers cottoned on to this? If they insist on external stepdown transformers why not make the leads robust I think anyone who knows there stuff would pay a premium for something that isn't going to break from wear and tear.

Probably two things:
1) Having mains voltage inside the unit means meeting different (stricter) regulations/needing more testing etc.
2) It's cheaper buying in ready made generic PSU bricks than designing and manufacturing your own.

I agree, but I won this controller in a raffle. Jumped into car yesterday to go to Radio Shack, and remembered I bought two the last time I was there. It's in the van, with one of my back up controllers, the DMC 2, that also broke. It seems they use 20 to 22 gauge wire for these things. So I pick up the 3-12v 1A version 
I am still looking at the DDJ-SZ, but am taking a second look at the DDJ-SR, which is usb powered and a lot smaller.

Are you linking into a mixer at a club or is this for mobile use?
Not really got going with the SR as yet and haven't used it out yet but already I'm a little board of it, it's quite basic, I don't regret buying it as its good build quality and has booth out which I needed to link into the house systems.

Using in the club like this 
I can access the booth from the Denon mixer underneath. Hook that SR up, and let us know what's going on. Don't get me wrong, I would love the SZ, but it will not fit in this club.
