I have come into acquisition of a gemini firstmix pro and it says on the website that it works with VirtualDJ pro but I have not been able to make it work on virtual dj...if anyone could help me make it work please let me know?

Gemini Firstmix is a natively supported midi controller, but not the Firstmix Pro (different model).
You will need to either map it as Simple Midi or create on your own a proper definition file .. http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/Controller_Definition.html
