Topic: Looking For A Good Audio Compare Program

I'm looking to filter out and remove (Not So Good quality) files and keep the better quality files from duplicates..

I also need to compare folders too containing audio files for duplicates between two folders.....so if I wanted to copy files from one folder to the other using a program it would have to flag the duplicates in the source folder and only copy those that are not already in the target folder..

The only way that I know how to find duplicates of songs is iTunes. Its all "sweat equity" really. You can put everything in iTunes and it can show you the duplicates based on names. I do know that it will show you the same song even if it is on 3 different albums tho. I don't know of any other program that can do this for you.
 
There are lots of file comparison/duplicate finder programs, some aimed specifically at MP3s.

One that I've used in the past is Duplicate Finder by Ashisoft.

i use mediamonkey to find and remove duplicates
 
You could just use windows search from within your Master music folder <*.mp3|*.aiff|*.m4a> etc (or just *.*) and then reorder the results by track title then add 'bit rate' to your columns

+1 for MediaMonkey. Havent been happier. I do believe theres an extension for what your looking for.
 
 
I do want to add that this program also has a built in player to check your songs before deleting them. The player has a poor buffer, on some systems it will sound like the song glitches. I found that if I click the begining of the waveform to restart the song, it plays what is loaded correctly. Do not think the song is corupt at first.

Also, do not blindly trust the software and delete all the songs it finds. Listen to them. Because it "listens" to the song as well as reading the tags, sometimes it will flag a remake by another artist as a dup, or a live version, etc.
 
The problem with similarity is you can't edit names in m4a files while the dup's are in front of you...

I was working to remove dup's which are mp3 and keep the m4a and delete the others, but also needed to edit the name of the m4a file while you have the information in front of you...

I was not able to edit that file and need to do this to 100's of files..

I didn't continue using the program because that was a show stopper for me, try joining the forum to get answers and that was also a problem because once you join and get your email conformation and post a question you have to be "Approved" by a moderator before anybody can see your post in the forum, I checked for many days and nothing, so I didn't bother until today while I was writing this post to check and finally I been "Approved".

I joined and post my first question back in Feb 5th and still haven't gotten a reply to my first post, I will post my second question today concerning the m4a problem and see what happens..
 
I have not tried to edit anything from the program. I just used it to find the duplicates. Then, I would export the list as a playlist and open it with ITunes. I use it to manage my library due to the multiple iPhones/iPads/iPods in my household and VDJ can read its playlists. This way my library is updated as well.
 
Now, if I only had a good way to remove missing songs in iTunes that I have deleted in VDJ...
 
it's not easy, but you could just substitute the missing file with another file, rename it to the exact name in the exact folder within iTunes, then find it in your library, locate it, once it has been found again you can delete it... Now there may be a better way to do this, but someone in the forum may have that info for you..

hi, you may try DuplicateFilesDeleter to remove your duplicate files, it works very well and remove duplicate files quickly.
