Understood and my apologies. I do believe that Heiko mentioned 8, in which he stated that the "discussion was boring", which certainly seemed like an attempt to hijack the thread. I was just replying to his post.

I bought VDJ some time ago and have not payed for any updates. Bought Traktor about 3 years ago and have not payed for any updates. Bought Cross over a year ago not payed for any updates. bought Djay before I bought VDJ have no idea if updates have costed as I stopped using it the day I bought VDJ. Bought the Pioneer DDJ SX (Works with all of the softwares I have) so got Serato DJ with it all extra futures cost as plug ins.
This whole thing about free upgrades for life is not so important to most working DJ because you most likely get 2 + years between major upgrades that you need to pay a small fee for.
New users will always look at price and they buy a controller with maybe Serato Intro or Traktor Le with Vdj Le witch software are they more likely to upgrade? The one that is nicest to the wallet I would guess.
If you can't justify spending 20-50$ every 3 year for upgrades then your not playing out enough and should be doing just fine with a free or Le version of any DJ software
I mainly use Mixvibes Cross now, it did not have Video build in by back then. I bought the plugin just to support their software even though I never have or will be mixing video.

I don't think it matters what the price of anything is. If you really want or need it, you'll buy it and you'll be happy with it.
If something is truly out of your price range, you'll buy something cheaper.
There's a market for CDJ-2000s and for the DJ2GO. There's a market for free software and for higher priced software.

anyone else feel trolled?
we spent $300 back in 2005 or' 06 (been awhile and not awake yet.) and haven't had to spend a penny more.
controllers are a preference not a necessity. anything spent on outside gear after that is the user's choice.

I have a dandy Idea, Just buy all the different software packs out there for all the different makers of their product.
Sure some other DJ's Hold Serto as a golden egg and maybe traktor as a close second. BUT i am patiently waiting for VDJ 8..
BTW. I do own Serato, and Traktor softwares and they all have their pros and cons.
I could only hope that VDJ 8 is going to be a game changer that is going to make those hard core Serto and traktor users jump ship....
While this is wishful thinking...
I use what ever software I want, depending on the limits of my controllers.. and such. ;) I am keeping my options open. but what ever the cost is for VDJ if you think its too pricy. Well... I just ordered some more flight cases for gear... and one flight case to protect 2 light fixture, was close to 400 dollars. I think the light fixture was only 340.00 a unit. Sure the case was more expensive than the light. BUT, now I know that my light will safely travel in a trailer where ever I want to go. So put it all into perspective.

Well said, and makes sense to me, especially the part about "all have their pros and cons". That part seems to be alien to some. What is important to me, means nothing to someone else. We do not all drive the same car, for a reason. As for the newcomer, that's just getting started, we have all been new comers. Six years ago, I became a cosmetologist. I could have gone cheap, but would have to continue spending money. Cheap does not do the job, and will not last. One pair of scissors cost me $500.00, and they were not the most expensive. This is not rocket science, and has been going on since the beginning of time. If you can't pay, you can't play.

If you spend $1900.00 on the new Pioneer SZ, can you still use the software, without it?

I don't know why you couldn't use the software with out it? We are talking about virtual DJ software right? :-D and not the software the comes with it. ;o

No, I'm talking about Serato. Can you use Serato, without the SZ controller? Virtual DJ can be used with or without a controller.

No you can not use any version of serato to my knowledge with out a controller or T.C. box.
I know exactly what you were saying I was just playing along. :-D

I'm a little slow, I don't use those emoticons (hope I spelled that right), so I don't pay attentions to them. I mean, if you are talking about the value of the software, how is it free, if I can only use it with a $1900 controller.
Another member said he did not like paying for something he doesn't need, in another thread. Hello, have you ever bought a car, or cable. I have a sunroof on my van. I can't tell you how much I hate sunroofs. However, in order to get the stuff I wanted, guess what? It came with a sunroof. I don't know about most of you, but life is a trade off, deal with it. Maybe this is a generation thing, and I am out of touch. But some guy said, "You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you get what you need". What does he know?

DJmike001, I just looked at your profile, because I don't like the way all of your words are spelled correctly. Who do you think you are? Anyway, I copied this from there and thought how earth shattering this statement is; "Their is no perfect controller or interface for everyone... ". I mean, where did you come up with this crazy idea? This sounds like some kind of Klingon voodoo. Then again, I can see right through you. It's was actually taken from "The Vulcan Wars" by Spock. Let me just repeat that "Their is no perfect controller or interface for everyone... "

Nice reference to The Rolling Stones..
I feel you on the sun roof thing, sometimes you have to get an extra that you don't want in life to get an extra that you do want. Been there done that. I am more of a fan of the older 1990's bmw Sunroof, that was more like a vent, as it wasn't glass it was a piece of metal that retracted.. that is besides the point.
I dont' mind paying for extra's obviously. like in the example of the SZ i don't need the serato softwares that comes with it. I already have it. So am I paying for something I don't need in this example. Yeah I will be paying for something again. But hey that is another software license that I could potentially sell? not sure how that will be bundled exactly.. but that is besides the point.
I rather have more than what I need than not enough. So With virtual DJ is there some features I will never use in a gig? like the feature smart scratch. the answer is NO, did I pay for that feature.. Sure.. It came with the software.. Would I pay extra for that feature.. No, because I won't use it. Sure I scratch from time to time, am I a scratch expert dJ the answer is NO, I am not. But I do practice at home, its just something I don't usually do at gigs, its something that I humour myself with. None the less. Sure the Smart scratch is something I won't use or even grow into using in the future. I think that feature btw basically kills the backward scratch motion? anyway not important I don't like it, i can control how I scratch with my cross fader.
Anyway back to the point. Okay so lets say you don't need Video DJ abilities, you don't think you ever will want to get into it, or just don't have gigs where you can plug into a tv or projector relay.. Great.. Don't use it. But in the off chance that you find yourself in the situation where you want to start toying with Video DJing which BTW is actually pretty awesome. I don't do much of it.. but I do have enough Music videos to do a full set if i really wanted to.. It is better to pay for more than not pay enough and come across that client that wants that and will pay $$$ for it to happen.. Rent out the gear you would need in this case if you don't own it. I wouldn't buy all that unless I wanted to have it.. but then again I guess if I can talk the client into paying me enough to buy all that gear and I basically work for free why not? (probably will only find that on the corp level that pay obcene amounts of money for a dj from time to time if your lucky)
Vdj gives you this in the pro version, if you don't use it great who cares, but its there for you to use if you want, and or to grow into. The more transitional or diverse you can be sometimes the better. Besides VideoDJing isn't really much different at all than just DJing, at least I don't think so..

Actually it's the other way around. The one with glass is the moonroof. A sunroof has no glass. Just sayin... :-)

You would argue with the pope :) Actually we are both wrong according to the internet. The term moonroof was invented by Ford in the 70's and its now a generic term.

I'm not arguing, I'm proof reading. :-)
Up until reading your post, I'd never heard of a moonroof.
Did a little light Googling and discovered that you had it backwards. I did think that maybe you'd deliberately said it that way as a joke, but couldn't be sure.
That page actually says it's a generic term "to describe all glass panel inbuilt sunroofs".
Anyway, this is nothing to do with software prices so........
