Is the Intel Iris Pro 5100 any good for video with VDJ, are any of you out there using a PC or MAC with this already?

Intel Iris pro include intel Quick Sync technology and his nowadays one of the most powerful intel GPU with quicksync technology.

For gaming not very goog but for video encoding, decoding, etc....the best thing you can get on a PC for the moment.

For example nowadays only latest intel GPU which support intel quick sync (those who come with i5, i7 and haswell) can decode correctly 4K content. On MAC intel quick sync isn't well handled. Apple still have work to do. But on PC, as vdj supports intel quick sync thanks to a patch developped later and available for the pro users, you can go for it

I'm after info off users that have used it really (how well it handles VJing in VDJ ), thanks for your info though.

Video decoding is only a small part of the equation when doing video.

The problem is not so much with decoding video on the Intel cards; it's more their actual 3D performance. They don't have anywhere near the capabilities of other cards - so whilst decoding the video is fine when it comes to passing that video into a 3D environment, manipulating and working with it there and so on is where they often start to struggle, especially at higher resolutions.

The 5100 is a step up form the 3000/4000 (and the 5200 a step up again) but if you're doing video it pays to invest in good hardware IMHO.

Thanks for the info, the reason I'm asking is that I'm thinking of getting an ultra book or a new 13" MacBook pro and they now all seem to only come with a Intel 5000 or a Intel 5100.
