Topic: Thinking about getting an All In One CD/Mixer/Controller/Soundcard??

Hi,
If anyone is considering getting an All In One that has CD Players/Mixer/Soundcard/Software Controller just something for you to think about.
I have a Numark MixDeck as it seemed the perfect thing for me. As a mobile Dj that has trouble carry lots of equipment around having the ability to play from CD's, USB sticks, iPods & server as a controller for virtual looked perfect.
Allthough I am very happy with the unit itself, on the odd occasion something fails and the MixDeck stops controlling Virtual Dj. The mixer and dual channel soundcard still works so I can carry on using virtual dj with a mouse. If I then switch to play from any other source on the MixDeck so that I cant restart my laptop, when virtual dj starts up again i can still play using the mouse but the controller will not work. The only way to get the controller working again is to power it down then back up again which means the music stops completely which no dj wants to ever happen.
If you do decide to get an all in one then my advice to you is get a cheap 2 channel mixer and run your controller into 1 channel of it & then to your amp. That way you can plug your phone, ipod, ipad or whatever into channel 2 of the cheap mixer to keep the music going while you reboot the other gear.

I used that same unit for about 2 1/2 years and never once had a problem now I use the Mixdeck Quad and its a dream, lol!!

When you loose control have you ever went into the config and hit the "Rescan for controllers" button??

I have tried the rescan option but it doesn't find the MixDeck controller. Audio still plays though.
I have seen a similar problem posted about pioneers 2000 nexus. The suggested solution was to set the latency manually as the auto latency feature can cause the controller to disconnect as it adjusts the latency constantly. I am going to give it a try.
The only other thing I have thought it could be is that the usb lead is not connecting to the device properly. The square end that connects to the MixDeck always has a very wobbly connection, ie the plug moves about in the socket a lot, this is the same with every usb lead and any device with the square socket on it. I think the usb design is poor as anything that isn't making a solid connection is surely likely to suffer from unreliability. Maybe it's time for manufacturers to switch to another way of connecting controllers to laptops. Not sure I'd trust the wireless route though either.
