The following is just my opinion, feel free to flame away :-)
I've seen a few statements, questions about it.. i'm not out to 'answer' those questions, nor state its the greatest thing since sliced bread..
I will say its worth it, and that more DJ's should use it,
to support the music industry.. and in a roundabout way make our industry better..
I wont go into all the details.. you will just have to trust me on this part..
Everyone knows the music industry is in a flux.. theft is rampant and it is hurting the artists.. yada yada..
what you might not have known is most artists and their labels really dont care much about the average DJ..
compared to radio, spotify, itunes, etc etc. We ARE NOT the big promoters of music we like to think we are.. basically the avg DJ is just seen as another consumer..
Using LEGAL services like "content unlimited" gives us (the avg DJ) the chance to show the music industry that we want to be partners with the artists.. The more DJ's "buy in" to the prospect, the better chance we have that the artists (and their labels) will "buy in" to fact we can help them, that we are part of the industry..
This wont happen individually, but as a GROUP we can be pretty powerful.. Hopefully this makes sense to my fellow DJ's.. That by supporting the artist, with a direct "DJ" only type service, we can actually help ourselves in the long run..

how are we helping the artistes promote just because we can play all requests and not have to dig for new songs. We the DJ's will not have those new just released song that we might want to promote if we only relay on "Content Unlimited" kind of service. Although it's called unlimited is not . it won't have all songs.

I can't speak for all of 'content unlimited' but I am very familiar with the Xtendamix service up here in canada (I think xtendamix is one of the providers for content unlimited)
I know I have lost track at how many times Xtendamix had the NEW songs ready to download BEFORE most radio stations were playing it..
Of course they didnt have EVERY knew song, but many, many times the labels are releasing the new music to the services as soon as they are releasing them to the radio stations..
and, as its been said many times.. no one should rely on just one source..
The point I was trying to make was not so much about the "promotion" side of it..
but the fact if we "THE DJ INDUSTRY" want to be relevant, and actually want to be know as a segment that CAN promote music,
we NEED to support the legal sources we have access to..
example
DJ 1 joins a 'not so legal' DJ pool, where he gets 50% of his music..
as far as the music industry is concerned, he is just another consumer pirating the music.. Sure, he is promoting the music, but NO ONE knows about it.. and if the makers of the music and the ones who chart the music don't know about it, in essence it never happened..
DJ 2 uses 'content unlimited' (maybe its not his primary music source, but he uses it..
THAT information is reported back.. not exactly his exact information, but the aggregate information of all the DJ's using the service..
that information IS used and noticed by the ''music industry'..
again..
the more DJ's that use it.. the more we will see an increased interest from the music industry.. This can lead to better/faster promotional access.. and (lets be honest) a little more respect..
Why do we care?
cause the world is moving more and more to streaming services.. If WE (the dj industry) dont show that we deserve the respect as a possible promotional alternative, then our sources of downloadable, high quality music may get tougher to acquire..
