I'm just starting off, and wanted to make sure my presentation is very professional. I wanted to know whats a very reasonable light set up to get.

Budget?

We have to get an idea of where you're starting from.

You want it to look professional, but you're just starting off. These two things often conflict. Professional equipment costs more than basic beginner equipment.

Also, what's your target area or clientele? Maybe give us an example of what you consider to be a professional setup.

I have a pretty crazy set up these days, but regret that I never started with up lighting. Most people buy all these huge (size) effect lights, but when doing mobile gigs, the most requested lighting is up lighting. It is even an upcharge, it is that requested. Lights might as well make you more money for that effort.

Just buy 1 slim LED par at a time and before you know it, you will have a whole room full. 6 to 12 up lights should do most rooms. Wireless lights like the Chauvet "Freedom Par" will cost more but be worth it in the end for control and ease of set up.

Budget or no budget, this is what the industry is calling for. Maybe not clubs as much, but definitely weddings. I am a few thousand into my lights and just wish I kept it simple and did up lights. No Tripods, tripod covers, rigging or anything. It saves room, cheaper per fixture than effect lights and looks great.

I find people dance less when the floor is well lit, they don't feel as "hidden" that way. Most people are just that self conscious when they dance. So light your floor in a way that does not make people feel like they are in a spot light. That is up lighting... That is the best advice I can give with what I have learned in the last few years of offering this.

I agree with Groovindj. We need to know the kind of music/people you dj for. You wouldn't want strobe lights and lasers if you DJ jazz music.

One good center piece will do, like the Revo 4, set it and forget it. There are other center pieces, but this one is good.

tanxs for the info

here is a great cheat for all starters.. You can buy a 3 channel remote plugin. It comes with a remote and three plugins with three different receivers. 1. is channel 1 and two is channel 2 and 3 is channel 3. the package is 30$ so then you can use the remote to turn on any sound triggered lights and turn off them too. It has a 150. 00 ft range and I have set up two with two 1 recievers and they both work together so when I push 1 both trigger and the lights turn on and move to the music. this is just a cheap fill in until you can afford light contoler or dmx.. if you have any questions pm me. simple and easy

Tycoon can I see a pic, basically I would like a decent light set up that would give me a decent appearance. I would build later for higher grade lights

Yeah, you said that in your first post.......but you've not answered any of the questions. We can't help unless you give us something to go on.
