I have had my Dell Latitude D630 for Djing about 6 years now and have never had a big problem with it (only audio).
Updated it with an SSD for a couple years ago and its been very stable.

But now its time to retire it and I bought my self a little bit bigger laptop that will last for a long time (I hope)
Does anybody have experience of using a ASUS G55VW in a Dj setup ?
I had to buy it with Windows 8 :-(

been thinking about upgrading my dell Xps 17" to an SSD and windows 8 ? how is windows 8 running with VDJ ?

My buddy just had a real bad time with a Dell XPS 17, replaced the mb twice monitor once, then it wouldn't boot.
He has a new one on the way, but that proves to me not everything can be fixed even in the best hands.

Case in point, friends don't let friends buy Dell, or my wife even for that matter.
She had this Dell Insprion that stopped booting because the bios battery died, I figured to problem just pop in a new one done...WRONG.
This was a full strip to get to the point on the mb where the battery was located, even techs didn't want to touch it.

This is where she started looking for another P of C and I just couldn't let her get sucked in again.
She got a 15 MBP as an aniversary gift and has NEVER HAD ONE SINGLE PROBLEM.

So don't get sucked in by cheap cheap cheap prices on P of C's.

I could go on about bloatware and antivirus stealing the resources you paid for and how even sliced and diced are still lurking on your system and how my Mac never needed to be optimized for my dj vj use, and that Mac runs Windows better than PC does, but thats another discussion.

Sure if you want Dell's, or HP's altered operating system rather than what MS issues, than you go for it.

Oh and btw, I have had my Mac completely apart in a matter of an hour without the help of Youtube, try that on a P of C.

Yup I agree, quit getting caught up in the whole price war and stay away from Dell............. In my opinion if you must get a PC then go with Asus. I've had nothing but good with my Asus.......

BB what ASUS do you got?

I've got an older one G1S. Used it for 4 years and never had problem other then not being able to lower my latency down to 1ms, lol!! Haven't decided which model (Asus) I'll get next.

Okay, I'm a little slow. What the puck is a syphon, and why do I need it?

Syphon
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Syphon diagram.

The marot jar is a special kind of syphon.
The word syphon (Greek: Σίφων, also spelled siphon) can refer to any device that conducts the flow of liquids through tubes. Used in the right way, the word refers to a tube in an upside-down U shape. The tube makes liquid flow uphill. It flows higher than the source of the liquid, to come out at a level lower than the surface of the source. The movement is done without pumps. It is powered by the fall of the liquid as it flows down the tube under the pull of gravity.
The syphon must touch the liquid in the (upper) reservoir (the source, where the liquid comes from) in order for it to work. This allows atmospheric pressure to push the liquid up the tube. The top of the tube is where the lowest pressure is, so the liquid will move towards that area in the same way as a barometer. The top of a syphon is the same as the height of a barometer, because they work in the same way. The lower pressure is caused by the liquid falling on the downhill side.
When both ends of a syphon are at atmospheric pressure (equal pressure), liquid flows from high to low. However, if the lower end is pressurised, liquid can flow from low to high. Most syphons have water as a fluid. Other fluids, such as mercury, or organic liquids or even gasses like carbon dioxide can also be syphoned.[1]

Havent tried using vdj with W8 yet.
