Had some issues with my 2010 Macbook Pro i7. Been using it for DJing for 3 years boot camped with Windows 7, last November I upgraded to Windows 8. After a few weeks it shut down without warning with a full dance floor, the next week it did the same. So, thinking W8 was the problem I went back to W7. Since March using the W7 side at home it has blue screened about 3 times. But also, on the Mac side it has randomly shut down 3 times and generated a report. The last time just a week ago.
Made an appointment at the Apple Store Genius Bar for today to get it checked out. They ran all the tests and the final test came up with a failure. It said there was a video problem and suggested replacing the logic board (motherboard=expensive). It's out of warranty but they are still gonna replace it for FREE!

When it's repaired I think I'll have another go of Windows 8.

You could have bought 3 normal Windows laptops for the price though ..... (ducks out of the way ....)
Not the same response my friend got. Out of warranty by 6 months and £800 board replacement. Needless to say he's not chuffed!

I've had them repair out of warranty items for free more than once. Even after accidental damage. I've found that if you're polite and honest they will be more flexible.
Apple repairs aren't cheap thou but they do return them back very quickly.

Right backups done, stuff up on Dropbox, etc. Phone call today, part has arrived, taking it to them this afternoon. Stressed to them I NEED it back asap for gigging on Friday (fingers crossed). They said they'd make it a priority but they don't have much repair work in anyway so should have it back easily.
Spoke to a friend of mine about it and he reminded me that Windows will not work when it comes back!!! OMFG I forgot, they are changing the Logic Board (motherboard). Which means Windows will probably kick off as the signature will be different. it may take some time to resolve the issue, in the meantime.........
OK, calm down, I have the Mac version installed and the utility to read/write NTFS partitions, so, I could work with the Mac side as all vids and music are on an external 1tb drive. Other alternative, I still have my old Dell Inspiron 6000. I still use it every week for my invoicing and accounts. I still have every bought DJ program on there too, PCDJ Red & Blue, PCDJ FX VRM, PCDJ VJ, Tractor Studio 3 and Abelton 6. I've just updated VirtualDJ from 6 when it was last used for DJing about 4 years ago.
Hopefully all will go smoothly with these backup plans in place, wish me luck. :-)

I have to say I'm SPEECHLESS! Took my MacBook to the Apple Store in Eldon Square, Newcastle to have the Logic Board (read motherboard) replaced at 4pm today. They made it a priority so I would have it back for DJing on Friday. But, at 6.30pm they only rang me to tell me "It's ready to collect!!!". Typing this on it now. Can't beat service like that...... and a £349 job done for FREE!!! :-)
Windows was unaffected, everything is working as it should. Can't believe they turned it around in 2 1/2 hours!!!

I personally don't care for apple products, mainly their OS, but i'll have to admit that they DO have pretty good customer service

After visiting the Apple Store for the 3rd time in 24 hours they have come to the conclusion that it's the 8 gigs of Crucial Memory I installed 2 years ago seems to have gone bad. They said install the original 4 gigs and everything should be fine. They also said that Crucial Memory has a Lifetime Warranty, contact them and get it replaced. Got the Mac up and running now.
