You can use the registry tool http://www.virtualdj.com/addons/2170/Registry_Tool.html and play with the zero db setting. Haven't done it myself, but I think you can boost the output that way. Be careful when messing with your gain structure peaking your output too high can make square waves. Speakers can't make square waves and when they try it can blow them.
Also look at config/options/autogain
I have mine set to auto. Auto remember became and issue for me because as soon as you mess with a tracks gain knob its set there for better or worse. I'd have cover dj's screw up all my tracks when the came into play for me.

Don't change the zero DB setting. For best results and sound quality, songs should be normalised to 0dB, which VirtualDJ does by default once the song has loaded in full. Make sure that you allow the song to load in full before you play it, otherwise there might be a sudden increase/decrease in volume once it has finished analysing - See http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/Pre-Analysing%20Your%20Music%20Collection.html
Also, don't use excessive gain to compensate for speakers that aren't loud enough. Increasing this excessively may result in distorted audio and/or limiter 'pumping' in VirtualDJ v7.3 or above - See http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/Limiter.html
Check the CONFIG -> Options -> Volume Headroom setting - The higher this value, the lower the overall sound output level. It lowers the overall level to give you more headroom to apply additional EQ boost and/or gain for songs that need it.
Also, check that the master volume control on the DJ console and/or VirtualDJ skin is turned up.
If it's still not loud enough, then you may need to upgrade your speakers.

Sorry bout that suggestion, I knew it was a bit sketchy. Meant to add the volume headroom bit in though.

Suggested this in another thread.
Try hooking up your laptop using your internal soundcard into a speaker system and play songs in VDJ just to check if there is any problem with the levels in your laptop system first.
If there is a Big difference in the output over what you're getting from your Mix-4 system then download the latest drivers from Hercules website, Un-install the Hercules drivers from the control panel in your computer, disconnect your Mix-4 and reboot your computer.
Now install your new drivers and follow the install instructions carefully, It'll be a good idea for you to read their installation procedure manual before, just to make sure the full installation as been completed successfully...
I have one and don't have those issue you are having, so it just might be an installation problem..
