Topic: Serato DJ 1.2 and the irony of it all - Page: 1

由于该帖子的部分内容已年深日久,可能包含陈旧过时或描述错误的信息。

Interesting email I got today...Serato DJ 1.2, upgrade for free on some controllers! (that exclamation, of course, sarcasm)

Seriously?

I might need help with this timeline, but from what I recall, there was a short time ago that Serato did not support video (extra charge now), a wide range of controllers or allow midi mapping...there was a time that anyone using VDJ would be scoffed at by club owners or Serato users, with the attitude that "real DJs don't need this, that or the third"

Slowly brought out Serato Video, for $149, of course, on top of the $500 -$1500 device you had to purchase to use the software, and remember since it wasn't controllers at first, you're talking about having to buy vinyls or CDJs too.

Then, midi controller support came, and DJ Intro was introduced and rejected by most. Itch had a more positive reception, but still lacked TONS of features, in particular with 4 deck controllers, the lack of switching to 2 deck skins. Under pressure, Serato changed that.

Midi assignment is now on Serato DJ 1.2, and they boast about how great it is that you can assign buttons to do what you want

What's next, custom skins? Playlist editors?

Every argument Serato users had is now null and void to me by their own software...

Feel free to add to my mini rant...

See y'all on the VDJ 8 side

You forgot about the sync button!

The majority of serato users I've seen just stare at their screen the whole night, even whilst mixing...can't say I do the same with VDJ.

They stare because they don't have a "SYNC" button, but they sure do know how to ride them waves.....lol (no pun intended, or maybe yes).

But the bigger point is that they are only playing catch up to VDJ v7.

Even though we don't yet have v8 ourselves, we already know from the info we have seen that it is a game changer...

Let them scoff... guaranteed you'll see v8 features appearing in other software over the next couple of years ;-)

Cheers,

Roy

So VDJ8 will be out in a couple of years??? Is that a hard release date?? Gosh I hope so, its only been a year since it was announced. :(

The day that Serato Scratch Live comes out with a Sync button/feature will be the day I laugh my butt off at all the SL users who think they are so much better than VDJ users strictly because of that reason.

That day may come soon. There have a lot of rumors going around that Serato DJ is going to replace SSL and become an all in one software for Serato. Granted everyone that have speculated this have said that this will be a few years away. So if that does happen, then "sync" will be a standard in the Serato world.

I for one think sync should never have been invented except for music production software. Many have used it as a crutch and really diluted the DJ'ing community. There are those that have taken it to the next level, but those guys are few and far in between and typically these guys are the ones that would not have needed sync to DJ anyways.

Yeah, forgot the sync. And see, the funny thing also is the name, it is Serato DJ...versus what, Virtual DJ? I mean, come on...and no, I'm sure (hoping) that VDJ8 will be out soon, but I would expect to see Serato copy those features too

You can only midi map a companion external controller. Also the mapping is limited to basic functions. Not completely useful.

From Serato:
Unfortunately you cant map features such as SLICER or ROLL to generic midi controllers.
These features are pre mapped for supported controllers only.

On the Mixdeck they've left some things unmapped yet you can't even go back and remap the controller itself!! And then you can't use effects on the master output, I'll give them that cause the way it was designed. And they don't give you an option to record back into the software! You basically payfor a hopped up version of Dj intro ...... I'll give them this though, the platter response is great and I like effects simple, 1 button on/off with a wet dry........

For me serato dj(yes I tried to useit)with my teminal mix 2....it was a pure dissaster from the begining.
Unable to load the database created with serato dj intro no matter what I tried so I gave up...

BUT...to be honest the sound quality is a little bit better...in all other sections VDJ RULES(and since the sound quality is a big promise for VDJ8)...i will Never go back...have no time and money to waste.

So far it's only the DDJ SX that has the full version as all other suported controllers don't have all the options of the DDJ SX so if your controller of choice don't have pads ther will be parts of the software that are not mapped out. The VCI400 has the same layout of pads as the DDJ SX (even could be 4 banks) but still no slicer, the NS7 you can't even use the sampler and it's size does not beg for adding other midi devices to the setup.

I'm sorry but Serato is making it confusing for it's customers.

@ the coment about Serato Dj vs. Virtual DJ name.... there is CrossDJ and TraktorDJ now too everyone is copying the VDJ name now.( sarcasem)

You miss read me ;-)

I meant once v8 has been released, all the cool stuff will start to appear in other software... Look at what they are only just releasing now - years after it was first released in VDJ...

As the old saying goes Plagiarism, the Sincerest Form of Flattery.

I know Steve Jobs and Bill Gates were well versed in this saying!

LOL
What diluted the "DJ community" was "free" music, and cheap equipment..
A sync button isnt even in the realm of being able to affect things the same amount..

I installed Serato DJ 1.2 and its works good. I like it better than Itch. It does everything I need it do and it works fine. I don't care much about midi mapping etc as along as in Can Mix flawless, access more than 4 cue points and loop.
