Hey guys,
I currently own Mixtrack pro I using VirtualDJ LE, I use a set of Philips Spa5300/2.1 speakers with them and my laptop.
If you google them and read the specs im looking for NEW speakers that are 'better' than them, preferbly louder, i think the
speakers i currently own are 50W, you'd have to check :-)
I never leave my or my pals houses with my equipment so really im not after big speakers, i've been told 'Studio' speakers are nice and compact but offer loud sound?
My budget is up too £150 id say, any help and advice is appreciated guys, oh and by the way, i play house/electro.

And where are you planning to use these speakers? Bedroom, Living room, Bar, Community Centre, Club, Super Club, Warehouse, Rave, Festival?
Please be more specific as you'll get a vast range of answers here from DJ's that work all of the above.
Cheers,
Roy

I think the part where he said he never leaves his house suggests that he's not planning on playing Glastonbury!
Ordinarily I'd suggest a pair of KRK Rokit powered speakers.......but a small pair will cost you £250.
Trust me, they're worth it!
For your budget though, have a look at the M Audio BX5 D2 monitors. A pair of those is £150.
The next step up would be the Alesis M1 monitors for around £165.

He also said "house gathering", so that sounds like more than two. Although monitors sound great when you are practicing, a few drinks and a few people, and your speakers are blown. Sooner or later you are going to want to get busy, so get a little more than you need. Look for some used ten inch powered speakers, with a 200 to 250 watt amp inside.

As a 'bedroom DJ/internet broadcaster', my M-Audio AV40s are plenty grunty enough to fill a living room, raised on speaker stands to head height. Perhaps they don't offer quite as deeper bass as I'd like, but damn, they're punchy enough for the Hard House I play, without being so bassy as to annoy my neighbours too much either.
Only £90odd delivered from Amazon, too!

yeah... my bad... didn't take in that info properly...
Would definitely invest in a pair of KRK Rockits if you can, if not the Citronic ST-5's are a good alternative.
Cheers,
Roy

I an new and inspiring Dj wishing to do private sets such as weddings. I am on a very TIGHT budget, can advise me on affordable and reliable speakers for the beginner? I was hoping to purchase speakers that will pay for themselves until I'm able to upgrade. I was looking at the 15"Mackies, and Behringer which seem to be in my price range but some of the reviews that I have read scare the daylights out of me. I have also looked at Gemini. If anyone could help, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

@ Virtual Key. The speakers I have in my Dj room look identical to those but under the name " Stageworks " They sound really good and clear. I also have a Jbl 10 inch Home theatre powered sub and the sub with the speakers combined sounds awesome.
@ DJsmack. If you want a good pair of speakers that are in the same price range as the Mackie Thumps and Behringers, Buy the Alto TS115a speakers. The Mackie thumps sound good But, They only handle 150 watts rms (400 Peak) The Behringers don't have good sound detail like the Mackie & Altos. When you hear them side by side, You will hear a big difference. The Behringers sound flat. I used to have a Pair and sold them right away because the sound quality is not there. The Altos sound really good for its price range and has a good bass response. They handle 335 watts rms for the Lows and 65 watts Rms for the highs. (400watts Rms) (800 watts peak) I have a pair of TS112a speakers for easy gigs and they sound really good.

Might also be worth looking into a good pair of second hand monitors/speakers. Buy from a trusted dealer tho and avoid Ebay if you can.
Good luck :-)

I've been hearing a lot of good things about the Behringer powered speakers.
i little cheap for my taste, but would be awesome for a bedroom DJ.. IE: a GREAT starter speaker

The Mackie Thumps are great speakers for the price. Biggest drawback is that they can blow easily. Bang for the buck, they put out a lot of sound, and they sound pretty good. Just don't push them too hard.

Thanks everyone for your input, I may be getting a set of Peavy's from a family member.

If you have a store near you where you can listen to Behringer 815neo do it. They are only 400w rms but they sound ok and they have nice lows.

After owning a pair of behringers, I would never recommend them to anyone. They don't have good sound. For the same price as behringers and Mackie thumps, This is the way to go.

Heard a lot of good things about them and I was definately interested,, until I was able to compare them to a set of DB Chromo 12's. The Alto's lost.....
