Hello, i want to buy a new laptop to use for music and video. The cuurent laptop I had had issues with video. It had a ATI chipset which everyone in the posts said VDJ had issues with and the graphics were intergrated. Please let me know you thoughts on the specs for the next laptop I want to get and any possible issues.

might b able to use a bit more memory, for video.....have to let the video guys chime in on that to b sure though...I'm surprised for such a high end machine that they arent shipping with more RAM...cant have it all I guess....Looks like a beast though

Good specs and under a grand.... should perform well. What kind of set-up are you using it with, I noticed only a single USB 2.0.

This laptop is totally a killer one, but, I don’t think is good for DJing. With HP laptops you get some serious problems when you want low latency.
1st. You will need a clean windows install as HP' s laptops comes always with a lot of bloatware
2nd. Windows 8 is a good solution if you need portability in your system. If you don’t need those cloud services you have to stick on windows 7 (Dual Booting is a good solution without affecting your performance)
3rd. HP doesn’t offer memory sharing menu in BIOS so you can’t changing sharing plan on graphic card. This can cause some spikes on your latency (every 15 seconds) and there is no way to change it. If you can do a latency test before buying.
4th. The lack of usb 2.0 isn’t good for DJing:) You need more. Also there are a lot of bad feedback for connectivity on usb3.

Hello everyone, I appreciate the feedback. I am using the numark ns6.

I did not see how much memory, for the video card. I'm old, so maybe I missed it.
发表时间 Fri 07 Dec 12 @ 10:12 am
I know you can set the video card memory to be dedicated or shared. I beleive it is 2 gigs.

My only worry with your setup is the memory like I mentioned and Man and His Music seconded. Maybe not ideal for video w/out an upgrade. I would think that the lack of USB 2 ports could be a real problem though.....USB 3 is bkwards compatible I believe, but that may not overcome the interference problem with USB 3 someone mentioned above....

OK, I looked this machine up, and it has 2g of dedicated memory, on the video card. It has 1 usb 2 port, and 3 usb 3 ports. This machine looks good on paper, but I would like to hear from those that own it. It may not mean a lot to some, but I don't like 5400 rpm hard drives.

Rick.. I am seein alot of 5400 drives lately in the new gear. I still use my homeade system whiich is a dual core.. I too would love to get a new system. Problem is I can't get anything with S-Video out anymore.. All HDMI so I would have to figure that out!

So the memory is upgradable to 16 gigs. About $79. I purchased the laptop & will post my findings. Gonna see how it works with the memory upgrade. I am more concerned about windows 8.

Here is my 1st update. I have not upped the RAM to 16 gigs yet. I am currently with 8 gigs. I am still getting use to Windows 8 but I will tell you what I have found so far. 1st I went through and deleted all unnecessary programs. I also went into the start up and app which is now in task manager on Windows 8. I disabled all unnecessary apps from starting up. I also went to the live tiles screen ad disabled all the live tiles from wanting to update constantly. I updated everything and went to the proper websites to down load the most current drivers for my controllers.
I downloaded VDJ. I ran the registry tool and changed the max memory to half the memory of my dedicated video card 1024. I also clicked on the Nvidiabugfix option. I tried mixing video and it seems ok but when I went to record video it was having issues. I downloaded the DVIX codecs and the K-Lite codecs. I change the recoding codecs to DVIX and so far everything seems fine. This was a light test. I believe I still have to give it a heavy test to verify everything is good.
So far I am happy with the results and this laptop. If I come across re issues I will come back and list them.

Hi,
My advice... Use 8GB RAM in 2 modules, but it is ok if you want to get 16gb. Be sure those run as fast as your computer allow you. DDR3 1333 or 1600 by example.
About video, it is better a GT650 or better one. GT630 is not powerful enough, even HD4000 may run better than the GT630 with VirtualJD. But withthe specs you have wrote, it may work fine.
About processor, Core i5 or Core i7 3th generation is the way to go now. You can use Windows 7 or 8 in 32 or 64 bit. If you use 32 bit just use 4gb of RAM if you use 64 bit, you can have 8gb or 16gb.
If you want to run faster and all your music is an external hard drive, use a SSD inside your laptop. The best ones from HP are The Probook and the Elitebook that are made for business and high reliability. HP 6470b or 6570b or 8570b or any better than that, are working great.
Good Luck!

I agree with the poster above about latency issues.
I had a top end HP machine with an nVidia chispet.
It wouldn't work properly with a USB soundcard. The was always a jump and a click on a video transition.
HP eventually told me their laptop range wasn't designed to work with an external soundcard for professional use.
There wasn't much I could say to that, fortunately I had a friend who worked in the shop I purchased it from and got a refund.

This is my 4th hp I have had for djing. I know they r not the best over all but they have been dependable when it comes to audio. At least in my experience. I do not do video at my gigs but I do like to do video. I have never had a problem with my controllers. I have used the hercules mk1, mk2, mk4, denon hc4500 & the numark ns6. So far this one if fine even with video but like I said I need to do heavy testing.

I have always use HP from the last 10 years. I always use Business Laptops, never regret it. Pavilion and home made ones, may not be the same. AMD processors inside may also not the best choice to go. But now with any Core i 3th generation you would do it fine.
Now I have a Core 2 Duo from 2007 and still do video mixing with VirtualDJ Pro 7.3.0 and have another with Core i5 HD3000 and works fine too
HP 6710b 2.4GHz and HP6360b at 2.5GHz... and better of all, I use the Firewire port on those ones to use my Echo AUdioFire. VirtualDJ Rocks in those ones too!

The other thing about business laptops, like ACW mentioned, they do not come with as much bloatware on them.

So I'm thinking about getting a Windows 8 laptop for my rig. Problem is, I'm still in VDJ LE version 6.x, and I cant shell out the money for pro version.
My question is, will my VDJ version 6 be compatable with the more modern Windows 8 software? Any advice would help greatly, thanks
