Topic: Advice on extra speakers

由于该帖子已年深日久,可能包含陈旧过时或描述错误的信息。

Hi all, I'm just after some advice on speakers.
I currently have two active 15" 400wrms full range speakers and two active 18" 400wrms subs.
I've recently been offered two active double 15" speakers for what I think is a good price. (they are less than a year old and I can get them both cheaper than one new one. The guy is moving country for work in two weeks and can't take them with him hence the good price)

All of the above speakers are Wharfedale pro.
I mainly do small party's and the odd wedding (well I've just done my second this past Saturday) and my original setup seems to be plenty good enough but I'm sort of looking to the future and expanding. (I work full time as a mechanic and just dj when something comes up at the moment)

My question is if I brought these extra speakers do you think it will make much difference to my setup? I guess it may sound better as I could spread the single 15's out further.

Or do you think I will just be wasting my money.

Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Mark

Hey Mark,
It's good to have a pair of back up speakers in the event something happens or if you need another speaker for a cocktail hour or separate room. Also, if you're happy with the Wharfedale speakers and he's giving you a great price, go for it! For big events, you can put the double 15s on top of the subs and even use the single 15s as more fill if needed or as monitors. If you have the extra cash and the room, it sounds like a good deal. Good luck!

You have 18's and tops already, unless your going to play to audiences of 300 plus i would save your money.

Yeah, you do have to bear in mind that adding another pair of speakers won't make it twice as loud.

If you're not running your current system at max capacity then you still have overhead without needing more speakers.

As spares or alternatives though, yeah why not.

I know what you mean about being in another room. The wedding I did on Saturday was all outside on a small farm and the ceremony was at one end so I had to set up the 15's etc for the ceremony then wait for the photographers to finish then take them down and over to the area they were having the reception at.
It wasn't to much of a major but would have been nice to be able to just leave them for a while and have music going at the reception area.

Mmm decisions (I know what my wife thinks...)

Thanks for your input guy's

You should have had two systems for that affair, and charged accordingly. Never break down, to re-setup. On the other hand, double 15s are rather large. Ask yourself, if I were looking to buy another set of speakers, would I buy these, at their regular price? Do I have room in my van to carry these, and my regulars set of speakers? Are they easy to handle, by myself? Do I need to buy a new set of speakers right now? Do I really need something else? It is not a deal, unless you would buy these speakers anyway. It might seem like a deal, but down the road, you may wonder why you are carrying double 15s, and you only need singles.

Doing the ceremony was a last minute thing. But yes i do agree with you about the setup. The bride and groom are friends of my sisters so thats how i got the job and i did explain to them about the setup issues etc. Seeing as it was only my fourth paying gig i only charged them $400nzd. However after the gig they were so happy with what i did they gave me $600. So yes it was a hassel to move some of the setup but they were more than happy. Thats why i started looking at extra speakers. You bring up a lot of great points though.

Hey, you did what you had to do, with what you had. The bottom line is, the customer was happy, and appreciated the extra work. Nothing wrong with that. However, if you continue to do these types of gigs, you will need another setup. I think those double 15s, are a little too big for your needs, right now. Unless you start getting bigger gigs right now, they will sit around collecting dust, and your money is gone.

Thanks a lot, I appreciate all of your comments and it gives me a lot to think about.
