Topic: Considering Virtual DJ Pro for my shows

由于该帖子已年深日久,可能包含陈旧过时或描述错误的信息。

Hi, I have been using Swift Elite 4 for a few years to run my shows and it works pretty well for me. I run Karaoke shows, DJ at functions and run VJ style nights, basically music videos and action videos over songs that only have audio. However, Swift doesn't have a wave file or any kind of jog shuttle, so my cues are not accurate enough and my segues are a bit of guesswork. Proper beat mixing is out of the question.
I would like to trial Virtual DJ. I would need the Pro version. I've downloaded the free Home version, but when I open it I get an 'Error in the video driver' box.
I've downloaded the manual also and will give it a read.
Is there a key change for karaoke?
Thanks.

I'll answer the one I know.

Yes there is KEY change.

For VIDEO to be displayed externally (2nd monitor, not supported on the FREE one), you need the PRO version.

I recommend VDJ pro, it's well worth it.

This is a real easy, and simple choice for me. One software that does audio, video, and karaoke, at the same damn time. Wait... I just got and idea for a song, "At The Same Damn Time".

To late bro, lol!!

OK, thanks. I got some remote assistance from support, so the Home version is opening. I've been reading the manual and so far I like what I see. I've also seen some info videos on the interweb. Leaning heavily toward a change at the moment.

I jumped over from PCDJ Red back in 2006, and never looked back. It's not the cheapest software option on the market, but it's worth every penny for my money at least. We're also on the brink of version 8 which will bring a whole heap of new features to the table, and it's a free upgrade to pro users. Join the party!

Hey thanks.
On the karaoke key change subject, I see the rotary control, but how do I change key in half tone increments before the song begins?

Hmm, good question. Should be do-able with a bit of scripting. There may well be a couple of karaoke-themed skins on the download that do this, anybody want to chime in here?

Hi, I'm not sure I understand the question, surely you just load the track on the deck, let it load then turn the dial to left or right until you get the right key, then press play to start the song? I don't do karaoke so I don't really know about it, but just thought I'd try to clarify the quesiton :)

It's just traditionally, karaoke players had key up/down buttons that would change the key in semitone steps. No reason that I can see that this couldn't be done this way in a skin, it just happens to have taken the form of a rotary control in the case of the default skin.

Before version 7 had the key adjust built in, there was a keychanger plugin available that had a more karaoke-esque layout, that might be more what he's looking for.

Effects>sound effects>keychanger, and you can adjust plus or minus up to 3 semitones, and fine adjust, for each deck.

OK, thanks, got that, works fine.
Yes you can also just turn the dial, I notice that it shows you the changed key, it's just that normally, (well in every software and player I've used in the last 20 years), that is done numerically, but I can see that showing the actual key is very handy.

In order to apply more than 3 cues in a song would you require a different skin?

Yes, or a controller with more cue buttons, or mapping your keyboard to how many you want.

I'm looking at the Browser system now, how to adapt it for my preferred method of working. This is one area where Swift excels, for the way i use it anyway.
Couple of questions, in the Playlist, I notice you can't right click and Load Deck, only drag the song to the deck. Any way you can set a key for that? Minor thing, I prefer keystrokes to dragging.
In the songlist section of the browser, (when you click on a folder and it's contents appear), can you change the order of songs manually, as you can in the playlist?
All in all though, the program is great, think I'll purchase.

Yes. Just press enter on a highlighted song in the playlist, and it should load. Alternatively, you should be able to map this to a controller button.

Not exactly, although you can re-arrange the order of the songs alphabetically or numerically by clicking on any of the headers (artist, song title, bpm, key etc)

Look forward to seeing you on board!

Thanks, and I appreciate the help.
