Hi all...I've been a VDJ user for about 2 whole months now! I have been using a Hercules eMP3 controller, which is a great little box, but doesn't have enough buttons and knobs for my needs. Also, I've been wanting to consolidate my controller and soundcard. After looking around I decided that the Denon MC3000 was the best fit for my needs. I loved that it was set up "out of the box" for VDJ. Well, I received one last week and it's been an absolute nightmare. It flat out doesn't work as advertised. Three different people at Denon have all dropped the ball in terms of support and as of today, after being assured that their "top tech guy" was on the case, he and the Marketing Manager who I was working with have gone silent. I won't rehash, as I'll probably sound super snarky and bitter since I'm currently stuck with a $500 box that barely works.
So, since I'll be returning this thing, I wanted to inquire with other VDJ users as to what their favorite controller is and how it works for them. I really can't spend more than $500 and don't want something else made of plastic. Also, having enough/correct buttons for VDJ would be super helpful.
Like I said, I thought I was getting the best thing I could afford and it turns out that their products and their support aren't up to snuff.
Thanks in advance. I look forward to seeing your input.

Under $500.00 not made of plastic....you can't go wrong with a Hercules RMX or 4mx and you will still have money left over.
Stay away from American Audio VMS4, looks great on the surface but it was a major pain.
My favorite controllers under $500.00 so far have been
Hercules RMX, Hercules 4mx and I also love M-Audio's Xponent but that one is made out of plastic and Xponent has the problem disconnecting from VDJ because of the buggy M-Audio drivers. But what I liked about the Xponent was the size and all the buttons and LEDs!
My top 5 favorite controllers of all time have been
1- Numark NS6
2- (a close 2nd) Denon DN-MC6000
3 - Traktor Kontrol S4 (But I think its way over priced for 100% plastic construction)
4 - Xponent (Because of the massive amount of controls)
5 - Hercules 4mx
Maybe you should save some cash for a higher end controller.
Trust me when I tell you, I speak from experience. I'm a gear whore

By the way I think you over paid for that DN-MC3000, I've seen them cheaper. $500.00 is what I plan on selling one of my Denon DN-MC6000.
Also, nothing with VDJ Pro (I think VDJ LE is only plug and play) is really plug and play, you still have to configure some settings.
I'm pretty sure the only thing wrong with your DN-MC3000 is your VDJ settings. I still haven't gotten my hand on a DN-MC3000 so I can't help you there. Denon makes great quality stuff, I'm surprised to hear that your having problems with yours.

Whoa...you're not kidding! I really appreciate the insight. The MC3000 was advertised as plug and play, pre-mapped for VDJ. Shouldn't make any difference if I'm using LE or Pro. (Notice I used the word "shouldn't.")
The weird part is that while I'm still a fairly new VDJ user, I understand a lot of the VDJScript stuff and had no problem using it to map a different controller. There's something odd going on either with the midi drivers or midi settings in the MC3000 (that I can't see) or something fatally wrong with the mapper that comes with/built in that makes a giant mess of everything if I edit a single setting.
Someone at Denon and someone at Atomix are looking into this, so hopefully it will be resolved before my 30 day return window comes up.
Numark eh? Gotta look into that...

did you remember correctly? it didn't seem that you did, as I wouldn't use that I would use something more like
device_side 'left' ? deck 1 leftdeck ? deck 1 leftvideo & video_transition : deck 3 leftvideo & video_transition : deck 2 rightdeck ? deck 2 rightvideo & video_transition : deck 4 rightvideo & video_transition
not sure how to make it specifically go to a side, that will cross to whatever side it's not on I think... but I never use video and haven't tested it, so it may need some tweeking.

If 2 companies are looking into your troubles I would think you've got a "monday morning product".
To prove otherwise: I bought a MC6000 this afternoon and gigged with it tonight. Installed and updated (firmware) on location and, beside some details, it worked flawless. (no, I didn't take any irresponsible risk, because I had my usual gear with me as backup and some time left to bugsearch, just in case....)
I agree with Magagar that only the LE-version is Plug&Play. All settings are included in setup, and there's a little to no space to alter your config.
But the MC6000 is pretty much straight forward in setup and can be configured in the nirmal, simplified audio setup. I guess the 3000 is almost similar so not really too difficult.
I hope you'll figure out what causes your trouble.

Mmmm well I am afraid it does. I had exactly the same experience with my VCI-400. It worked perfectly with the supplied LE version. But very limited and flawed with the latest Pro version. It actually seems Atomix is not updating the online distribution of the Pro version to be up to date with the latest controllers and the support that is in the current release is based on specs or pre-releases. Normally they would collect several updated controllers and put it in their next release. But since version 8 is wip its very unlikely they will do a 7 update.
Eventually I ended up being given some new mapper files and device definition files which allowed my pro version to work but this whole process took at least a week or so and lots of frustration.
So before writing it off, get Atomix to give you some support.
Good luck!
