Topic: Master/Slave or Sound Active modes in DMX help

由于该帖子已年深日久,可能包含陈旧过时或描述错误的信息。

hi guys, im playing around with freestyler DMX and my lighting rig, ive got my fixtures all workng and now ive hit a wall. it it possible to have the lights react to sound when in dmx mode??

i would like to be able to use the software as a switch box for now untill i get more familiar with things, for example, have the lights react to sound (some in master/slave mode) and be able to switch them on and off with the use of freestyler DMX.

does anyone know if this can be done? or is it a fixture specific??

the light i want to control in pairs (master/slave and sound active) are:

2 x ADJ Revo I
2 x Chauvet Micro Barrel ch620

if anyone knows what my options are, can you please fill me in?

Thanks, john.

In order for you to control your lights using PC/Mac with a software like Freestyler, Dashlight, Camsys etc. you need a DMX USB DONGLE like this or any brands:

John didn't tell, but he's got a Velleman dongle ;)

John, have a look at this: http://www.virtualdj.com/forums/137181/VirtualDJ_Plugins/SBDJ_FreeStyler.html?page=1
Scott (SBDJ) has developed a plugin that can read the CBG-grid and send a beat to FS. Like that every DMX-fixture can react to music.
I haven't tried it myself because I have used the audio in on my FS-machine to let it respond to music. But I'm sure the plugin from Scott is a lot more accurate.

(BTW: I've got the Enntec Pro since a week and it is so much faster than the Velleman, that I should buy me some new scanners.... They can't keep up the pace... :D)

For the ADJ REVO I you can refer to the manual on how to setup DMX in sound active mode on the page-7 of the user manual. http://www.americandj.com/pdffiles/revo-1.pdf

But the Chauvet Micro Barrel ch620 i'm confuse with the model you have because theres no ch20? maybe ech20 scanner. The manual of this model is hard to find just be sure you have it so you don't need to guess and hunt how to set the DMX sound active mode.

ceaser, the manual for the chauvet micro barrel ech620 is extremely difficult to find. i have yet to find one myself. themaster slave option on te revo1? if i have them set to master slave? will i still be able to control them with freestyler dmx?

Yes, you should be able to control any fixtures with Freestyler using those USB DMX DONGLE that is supported by Freestyler and fixtures parameters should be a in the fixtures profiles library if not you can program your own using the FreeStyler Fixture Creator . Maybe you could try to follow those other chauvet scanner like the "intimidator" it might have the same dip switch setting.

hi ceaser, thanks for your relpy, i know al ebout the freestyler application, ive made several fixture files already and know how to control each fixture with the software.

the answer i need is "when in masterslave mode with the revo 1, if the lights are not connected to the dongle they react to sound in sync... however if they are connected, will they still be able to react to the music and also be switched on and off via the software??"

Yes it should... You must set the Master fixture only in sound active mode while the other slave fixtures that is chained chain to them is not set to sound active mode, so the slaves fixtures basically follows exactly what the masters fixture do, so all of them you will have a nice syncronized result. The trick here is, the master fixtures is the one who usually receive the commands from the softwares/controllers and the slaves fixtures only follow him. Now if you set all the fixtures including the slaves fixtures in sound active mode, each of them will react and respond to sounds on their own, so the result will not be a syncronized moves.

nope, dont work, i set them to master slave mode and they di nothing but flash on and and off in their own way. no following the music and no realy pattern change.

There are some works to be done before you can see they're all sync together. First you have to set the DMX channel address in the 512 univers of your freestyler, then again add the fixtures you must see to it that your software are recognizing your fixtures everytime you add them and define the DMX address. Can you post here the steps you did setup your fixtures from connection up to the DMX addressing and fixture profiles programing you maybe missed a steps thats why you wont be able to get it working. You maybe missed to set the sound active mode on your freestyler. On your freestyler "WINDOW" drop down menu choose "ALL" then it will display all the necessary windows for editing your fixture like the picture below the red square mark as the sound active mode for your fixture click that and try tapping your lights as it react according to the sounds receive by your fixtures.

Try one fixtures first to see if it works then just add another fixture again.

Most fixtures won't work in Master-Slave-mode if a DMX-signal is send. (In the manual of the fixture you send me is mentioned that Master-Slave only works without DMX-in on the Master-fixture.)
This sounds logical because the DMX-signal could conflict with the signal send by the Master-fixture.

thank you martin i read the manual again last night but must have overlooked the part regarding master/slave not being possible when in dmx mode. the answer you gave is the one i was looking for, simple and straight to the point, you should have another star lol

@ceaser, the info you gave above didnt work, sofor now im gonna go with martins answer untill i can work out what more i can do with my lights.

also @martin, if i send you my fixture files, will you take a quick look and let me know if there would be anything more i could add pleas?? thanks.

And that would make me.....? Experienced moderator :D

No problem. I'll have a look at it tomorrow (monday). Make it an installable export-file (in Fixture Creator). (You've got my mailadres, right?)

BTW: To sync your lights (as long as they are identical) just select them all and let them run the same program in FS. If needed there is a mirror-option (I have to see for myself where) so you can let the left fixtures do the opposite of the right fixtures. With my scanners I have set this on Pan and left tilt unchanged.

lol maybeyou shouldnt have another star yet then lol you only been a mod for a short time have a thumbe up instead... oh hang on thats fb lol... anyway i think i haveyour email, can you pm me it just incase. ill send them later on
