Topic: Timecode help!

由于该帖子已年深日久,可能包含陈旧过时或描述错误的信息。

Hi All,

So I have a Denon MC6000, and I have just recently purchased a set of turntables and would really like to use timecode with them!

So far i have got the timecode signal to pass through the MC6000 into virtual dj, but i cant ever seem to get a good signal. The green lines are all fuzzy and distorted, the 4 lines of white dots are the same. Cables are connected the right way, and the input is set to line on the MC6000.

This happens on both a set of Gemini CD Decks, and if I run the mp3 file off of an mp3 player.

This makes me think that it is probably related to the MC6000, but i know that i can pass though pure audio fine, so i see no reason as to why this shouldn't work?

Here is a screenshot of my timecode config: http://tinypic.com/r/241royf/5

Any help would be much appreciated!!!

Thanks

Rob.

Rob, the MC-6000 does not support timecode - that may be the issue.

But i can pass through normal audio to the computer fine, isn't a timecode signal just audio at the end of the day?? I feel there's gotta be something that i'm missing here...

You don't use line inputs for turntables!

The output from a magnetic cartridge is tiny compared to a line signal, and it needs RIAA equalisation.

Switch the inputs to 'phono'. I would have expected that info to be in the manual....

That will allow you to connect turntables to the MC6000, but you still can't use the MC6000
in a timecode setup, as it's not been designed that way - the sound card is too limited.

Thanks, but i haven't purchased the timecode vinyls yet (wanted to make sure it worked first) so at the moment i have tried with gemini cd decks and an mp3 player, which means the input needs to be on line.

I still don't understand why everyone says this wont work, the mc6000 passes through audio directly to the computer fine. If i set the input to line in and just play a music mp3 file the sound comes through fine. As i said before, isn't a timecode signal just an audio wave at the end of the day??

Rob,

The MC-6000 isn't designed that way. It is already a full Midi controller and hardware mixer so the need for timecode was not written in to the design criteria for the unit. Most DJ's with the MC-6000 don't require timecode as there's just no need for it.

You can route the decks through the MC-6000 but for full timecode support you will need another external sound card (Audio 8 for example) and a licenced copy of Virtual DJ Pro Full.

Yes, a timecode signal is audio - a long beeping tone.

With a timecode setup though, the audio (the beep) has to go from the decks in to the software - without being heard through the speaker system - in order to control the playback.

Then the (music) audio from the song(s) which are being controlled by the beep has to come back out of the computer and in to the mixer.

Therefore the soundcard that's doing this needs to have four inputs (i.e. two stereo channels) and four outputs, and the inputs need to go directly to the computer without going through the mixer (or you'd hear the beep in the speakers).

This is a FAQ for the Denon MC6000 and Denon themselves have stated that it's not possible.

Ok, im trying this out on Virtual DJ home, as i currently use Traktor, but would like to use timecode without having to pay £200 for a separate soundcard!!

I have another soundcard (Creative MP3+) that i would be using as the main output, so the issue with the sound of the timecode going through the main output isnt an issue, and i can still use the headphone output of the mc6000 for cueing.

All this still dosn't answer the question as to why i cant get the timecode signal to be configured properly in virtual dj. if it passes through a perfectly fine audio signal then surely vdj should be able to read that signal correctly??

Sorry to keep on like this, it just seems bizarre that it doesn't work!!!

A suitable sound card needn't cost £200 (dunno where you got that figure from).

Also I would not recommend trying to set timecode up with two completely separate cards from different manufacturers - especially domestic/consumer kit such as Creative. You're bound to run into issues with configuration and/or latency (timing) between the two cards and different sets of drivers etc. Too messy.

Ok, so I solved this problem!

I was using the virtual Dj timecode mp3, and I tried both of them. Just out of interest, I downloaded the serato control mp3 and guess what, 100% on the timecode config screen, and it works perfectly! No idea why the virtual Dj one didn't work properly though!

So now all I need to do is get some serato vinyl and see if it works! Anyone know if the signal on the vinyl is the same as on the serato CD?

So have you got timecode control to work through the MC-6000?

That's right. The only catch is that you have to use a separate soundcard for the main output, as the mc6000 passes the timecode signal directly to its main output. And I'm using a serato CD, as for some reason the virtual Dj one wouldn't work.

I'm using a windows PC, so I also had to use asio4all as for some reason it also wouldn't let me use the denon asio driver, not enough channels error. I was testing this to try and use with a pair of turntables, just need to get some serato vinyl now and see if it works #

what is your advanced config setup? when I try with the denon mc6000 and timecode I get an error
