Hello my dear fellow VirtualDJ users :)
This is my very first post on the forum, i'm kind of a VDj newby and I have a little problem :
I wanted to record guitar samples directly in VDj so i plugged my guitar in the mic input of my DJ4set USB controller and started recording using the "Deck-REC" button of the VDj7 skin, not the "master" record button of the hardware controller. The problem is that no matter what i do the volume of the recorded track is so low that i can't really use it as a sample.
Can anybody help me? PLeeeease! :)
PS: i'm french, pardon my english mistakes; i don't know if i made myself really clear so please do not hesitate asking me for any details, i really do want to get this fixed :)
Thanks a lot everyone!

Did you check the input-level in the Windows-mixer? (Right-click on the speaker-symbol in the system tray, bottom-right in your desktop)
If the fader is set to a lower volume, VDJ will never get a higher input.

Hi,
yes, the thing is that everything works perfect, it's just when it comes to this specific kind of recording. Actually, while i'm recording the output volume (including the guitar/mic volume) is good, it's just that the volume of the recorded track is very low, i just don't get it, if i turn up the mic volume in windows and on the controller i'll still have a very low volume recorded

U are using LE edition ... if you look at the compare page u will see that the LE recording is limited:
http://www.virtualdj.com/products/comparison.html
i do not know where the limitation is .... maybe thats the limitation .... hmmm lets ask SBDJ....
Edit:
(Just dropped a question at SBDJ to be shure that it isn't a limitation of LE)

This is drivin' me crazy !!
I'm wondering if it's not because of the whole installation, i'm not relly sure if i did plug everything properly, what's the best way to do it? i use the controller as default soundcard, any comments?

Got confirmation from an other side that there is no level limit so that is not the problem ....
Lets have a look at how u connected it all ... ?

OK, well it's simple, i use the USB controller as default soundcard, so actually it's a very basic configuration, the controller is USB plugged and the speakers or plugged to the controller. when i launch VDj, the computer automatically switches between the drivers. The software configuration is :
Input: Mic
Output : Headphones
Soundcard : Hrcules DJ4set
I only use the controller, and as i said everything works perfectly fine, even the guitar/mic volume when i play directly over a track it behaves like it should ( i guess ^^), it's just when it comes to recording from the mic input that the volume seems limited

I've been discussing your problem on FB with Dozo. Your output-signal from your guitar should be way higher than a standard microphone-signal, so I guess it should be overloaded instead of too low. Have you tried to connect a mic to your mic-input? What is that result?
If a hardware-solution is not found, you can try to normalize the recording with a software-solution like Audacity. It even got a noise-reduction in the case that boosting the signal will introduce noise to your recording.

I just tried with a mic, exact same result when i record it, i guess there is no other way than pre-recording my guitar parts with another software...but it means i can't use the sampler for my guitar/mic on a "live set"

How about the sound of the mic / guitar from your speakers? That should be too low to. If that is OK, then maybe there's a work-around for recording.... If your balance between mic/guitar and music is OK out of your speakers, a live set should not be a problem.

It's OK, that's what i tried to explain, I plug guitar/mic, adjust the mic fader, everything's awesome, the sound of the guitar is crystal pure from the speaker, i press rec, still awesome while recording, it's when i listen to the new recorded piece of sound ( guitar or mic ) that the level is too low, i don't know what you mean by "work-around". So yes i can play live indeed, but since i can't exploit what i might record i can't extract a sample from what i play which is, in my very own point of view, sooo sad^^
Note; by "mic-fader" i mean the mic control volume on the controller, i'm sure you got it, but still :p lol

I did.... ;)
I really can't give you the answer to clear your problems. I don't have the Hercules-console so I can't try to duplicate your problem (got the guitar...) But I can't leave you without a solution...
The easiest is what I suggested before: Normalize your recording. Audacity is a free program that can normalize / boost your recording to 0 db. If boosting introduces noise, you can reduce that with the same program.
For now I can't think of anything else....

Well i guess i have no choice :s
However, thanks a lot for trying, i wasn't even expecting a single answer when i first posted my message so thanks again, keep me posted if you eventually think of something :)

It sounds to me that the problem is not your input as you say it sounds good when playing, the problem must be in the recording part.
Maybe the encoder is not working properly? I'm no expert, just thinking.
What options do you use in the "record" tab?
OGG? or MPEG?
If you use MPEG, do you have it at 160kbs?
What does your encoder say? Does it look like this?
C:\Users\USER\Documents\VirtualDJ\Plugins\lame_enc.dll

i'm sorry but can you be more specific? i don't get what you mean by "record tab", are you speaking about the VDj's options or the windows' config? in both cases i just don't know what to look for :s
I have the Lame DLL, but i don't know where and how to switch between OGG or MPEG

I don't know about your skin and maybe it's different with LE. I have Full Pro,
There are 4 tabs
BROWSER - SAMPLER - EFFECTS - RECORD
Under "Record" there are a few choices
"Record audio"
"Burn CD"
"Broadcast"
"Record Video"
Do you have these options?
