Are you still using oil-based smogfluid? My fogger is on water-based fluid and leaves no residue whatsoever. It also leaves the fire-detectors at ease ;)

And so you've answered my second option... ;)
If the fogger / hazer is older, residue on the heater can cause a spill of unburned fluid through the nozzle. But it seems yours is new, so that won't be the case.

It would have to be an old Martin machine to be oil based as they've not made them for years.
What model is it?

all the new water based machines will spit hot liquid out or even dribble if theyre "TILTED".
im my experience they should be positioned as near to horizontal as possible.

two big honkin' hazers on each end of the truss and if i leave them on for more than a minute it looks like a snoop dogg concert with willie nelson opening, but we've had no problems with fire alarms or drips - and if they're older model foggers that you have just put a small drip catch under the nozzle. problem solved?

with a hazer there shouldn't be any residue at all - with a fogger there is. and the fluids are not interchangeable. which exact model are you using and how is it being used? video or pictures would help i think. i know ours had to be hung a specific way on the truss so that they were level and so the haze had time to disperse.
