Topic: New Years Eve Party.

由于该帖子已年深日久,可能包含陈旧过时或描述错误的信息。

I am booked for a New Years Eve Party for a Jewish couple at a Jewish Community Center from 8 pm to 1 am. They don't want to discuss details over the phone or in person. They did however return a music preference sheet to me.

They were asked to rate various music category's from 0 to 10 with 0 being DO NOT PLAY AT ALL!

Here is what they returned:

Country - 0
Rock - 0
Hip-hop - 0
Rap - 0
Top 40 - 0
Salsa - 0
Techno - 0
50's - 2
60's - 3
70's - 3
80's - 3
Big Band - 4

As you can see from the scores above, no genre of music is rated very high. Usually you get at least a few scores of between 8 & 10.

I also use a flat panel TV or a projector and big screen to show music videos (I have a few thousand of them) and people generally love them.

My question is do I even mess with music videos for this event and what kind of music do I fill the 5 hour gig with since no genre rated very high? Songs/videos such as Baby Got Back, etc might not be liked at this event.

Anyone with any experience with Jewish party's on New Years Eve or any other time?

Thanks,

Dale

No offense to you - but if they're not willing to discuss event details with you, it's not a party that you want to take as you will be ill prepared for it. The job can go two ways... it could be a great party running blind or the more likely - it can tarnish your reputation as you have no idea as to what to prepare.

I would pressure the situation a bit more to gain more intelligence.

Agreed! And, if there is not more information forthcoming, Bail....There can be nothing good to come from it, as Aceman stated....

Baby Got Back does not fit into the playlist, they sound more like a "mavericks - dance the night away" crowd.

More like get the kettle on and have a cup of tea while playing backgammon, but if you get the music right it's gonna be a hell of a party.

Looking at that list it would appear they are into more traditional music, I'm sure there's a few guys here who can steer you in the right direction, you could also ask a few of your local Jewish community what makes the party go with a swing.

Just got to do your homework.

Enjoy.

The avaliation made me think they only wants a DJ to throw tomatoes on... ^^''

Well, are you sure you did not had a lack of communication? Big Bands are connected to songs from 20's to 50's, and the scores are very contradictory once 50's had a low pontuation. Maybe they didnt understand the score method, or something like this.

By the other hand, "religion" may be the key to a big party on that situation.
Some religious communities dont encourage listen to music which is not related to religious ideas. I had some troubles when playing to christian young groups, but I found the "heaven gates" when purposed to play electronic christian tracks.
I think you should take a look at Jewish traditional songs. But dont believe it will be enough to 5 hours.

got more details?
age group of the couple and people expected to show up?
orthodox jew? reform? or "just plain" (guessing here)
you can bet a case of Mogen David that their kids that show up (if any) are gonna ask for LMFAO and Lil' Wayne.
depending on the money involved you might want to seriously consider a back-up plan for new years eve, cause as-is right now you're looking at a disaster in the making, if they are that unwilling to be involved in their own party.

and if you do go ahead with it - make sure its a damn good contract they sign!

I play at a lot of Bar Mitzvah, and for Jewish people en general.

Here in Denmark, what they want the most is top 40 music, and 80-90's
The list can be found here :

Just change the week number in top right corner...

Then if you can get a hold of some traditional jewish songs for dancing in circles. ect. i will do fine. But don't know if a different thing over on the other side of the seas.

do what i do ? if i really dont want to DJ a certain event. i just do one of my kousins dirty :) (who are also DJ's) i just pass their cell numbers to the people looking for a DJ :-)

i think when the preponderance of the evidence suggests a bad client.....

just say no
