If you have windows 7 get a 32gig High speed SD card (class 10). Format it to NTFS and then set it as readyboost. It will make a big difference and is cheap and easy.

Also have a look at my home page, I have some guides on there that might help you.

Hope this helps

hey mate no im using xp professional.

Have a look at some of my guides on my home page they might help you out still

support staff have all this done.have no spyware or anti virus even internet on my gig machine.
just want to give vdj all the resources on my laptop.

Win 7 is the best at mo Staffy, the ready boost thing is a great cheap upgrade.

sort of afraid to upgrade to windows 7 mate as my xp gig machine runs smooth

XP is limited to recognizing about 3 1/2 GB total of RAM for everything running including the OS since it is a 32-bit software. This will limit the resources mad available to VDJ. By moving to Windows 7 you will not get a performance hit like you would with Vista but will also be able to go to a 64-bit operating system and increase your system resources - if your laptop supports more modern RAM that can be upgrade to 8GB. There is a limit to the amount of resources that can be allocated to VDJ since it is also a 32-bit software. I think the most RAM I have seen allocated to VDJ is a little over 2GB when running High def video mixing.

It is kind of one of those if its not broke don't fix it deals but if you are noticing that your CPU meter is in the red or your system is slowing down due to bumping up against RAM limits then it is worth looking into.

What are the specs of your current machine?

I am not seeing anywhere that you said you actually have a *problem* per se, just that you want to know that VDJ is at the top seat at the table, right?
You could just set it's priority higher than any other program's, that would make sure it gets the lions share of the resources. But this is also dangerous, as you could be taking away from system processes that need the extra resources.

My advice would be to do.... nothing. My mama always told me "If it ain't broke, then don't f***ing break it!". So, while I get what you are trying to do (make sure VDJ uses everything it can), rest assured that it will use everything it needs, all the time.

Staffy just has to much time on his hands at the mo with his back n all.
