Topic: Introduction and a "Stupid Question" About Auto-Trigger/Cue

由于该帖子已年深日久,可能包含陈旧过时或描述错误的信息。

Hello everyone. I'm Glen Millar a DJ from Edmonton, Canada and currently trying out the Home edition of VDJ with an eye on the Pro version once I have figured all the ins and outs of the program to point I can effectively use it at a event.

I have been a DJ for well over 30 years doing my first ever DJ gig in 1972 when I played between sets for bands such as The Stampeders, Chilliwack, and local bands as well who were playing for our high school dances.

For the last 11 years, I have been using OtsJuke/DJ/AV and also serve on the unofficial forums as a Admin/Moderator and at one time even hosted the site.

Now coming to VDJ from OtsAV does have a bit of a learning curve, and I am well aware of that, but, what I am looking to find a answer to is, how to properly set VDJ up to AutoPlay between decks (cue function??) versus the playlist AutoPlay method.

For many of my events, I am not behind/beside the DJ booth, I am actually on the floor with the people doing a interactive etc, and I need to be able to use VDJ in a way I can prepare the 4 decks with the next songs and do what I have to do on the floor. Also I DO prefer to load/see the next song in a deck versus how the Autoplay works from the Playlist.

OtsAV allows me to see what is in the playlist upcoming and autoloads into the next available deck. This is something I will admit I am quite used to and also allows one to manually adjust tempo/pitch as well as cue point.

If you used Ots you will know what I am referring to. Can what I described above be accomplished with VDJ?

Thanks in advance for any assistance etc.

VDJ did originally (if I recall correctly) load each track to a new deck when running through a playlist - but not now.

Atomix's reasoning behind this is that it allows one deck to remain free for when you wish to take over and play live again.

However, admittedly this is now a little outdated, as VDJ can use up to 99 decks.

There have been users who wanted to see VDJ go back to the old method, but (as far as I know) it's not happened.

Are you aware that there's a 'remote control' app for VDJ? It works via wifi and runs on iPod Touch/iPhone/iPad.

I thought you could map a button with 'automix_dualdeck' and then it'll use 2 decks, I could be wrong though.

Good day
Huey

Your right there Huey, or download a skin with the automix next track info displayed.

Thank you all for the replies. I appreciate the input from each person who did reply, and specifically;

groovindj: I thought I had remembered VDJ having this feature from a previous time when I tested VDJ out (about 5 years ago or so). Yes I am aware of the iPhone app.

beatbreaker1: At this time I am not using a controller for DJing and use simply the keyboard/mouse so unable to do any mapping for a bit.

ianmelville: As I am using the Home edition currently for testing, from what I read I cannot download any additional skins.

superaceman: Thanks for the link. Appreciated.

Thanks again all. Will continue testing for a bit.

You can map the keyboard mate... but the reason it was taken out of the software is because you don't need to waste two decks doing it, that way you can mix out of the automix whenever you are ready on the spare deck...

'Thought I would share this just so if you encounter it too, you won't be surprised anymore.

I tried single deck automix with videos several times (while guest/and I are dining), but when I go back to manual mixing, dis-engaged the automix and load new video on the other side, the video freezes while audio still runs :(

So what I do is play a song or two on my back-up gear (MacbookPro 13' + Herc MK4), then restart VDJ on my main set-up.

I will test dualdeck-automix on my next gig this Saturday and see if this can be avoided.

System:
Imac21 - 10.6.8 (Dual-Core)
Denon DN-X1600 (for sound interface & midi-controller for decks 3&4)
Xponent (midi-controller for decks 1&2)
2Numark HDX (Timecodes for decks 3&4)

But this is now outdated, because Atomix gave us the 99 deck ability....

I think sometimes they just forget about stuff. :-(

I still use two decks, more than three is just over indulgent and usually sounds crap, it's mainly noobs that sync and beatlock and still can't mix... hang on this is turning into a rant LOL

Just because the software has the ability to use 99 decks does not mean that you have to. There are still plenty of users out there using a 2 deck configuration because they are used to a more traditional layout and are most comfortable with it. Changing the automix function from utilizing one deck would not be beneficial to the 2 deck user.
