Topic: Using VMS4 with turntables

Hey everyone. I am currently using Virtual Vinyl with my Numark HDXs and a Vestax 07 mixer. I have recently considered trading out the vestax mixer for the American Audio VMS4 to give me the ease of use and midi mapping on my mixer that the VMS4 delivers (not to mention the XLR outs). Does anyone have any experience, seen any videos, or anything using the American Audio VMS4 with time code controllers (vinyl or CD) with Virtual DJ? I just want to know if it A) works well B) Is a pain in the ass to get working or not

I would just settle for the S4 and switch to Traktor, but Traktor doesn't support video yet and I do video DJing every now and again.

good question... thanks for posting because I currently have a VMS4, and I am considering upgrading to CDJs or TTs and I wanted to keep the VMS4 for the time being to use the mixer portion, as well as the video aspect of VDJ, and I dont have the $$ for another mixer AND cdjs/TTs at the moment.

Would I need a secondary soundcard/IO to use the other players with the controllers?
 
You can plug your CDJ's directly InTo the vms4 but if u want to use your CDJ's to control the program u need time code
 
I already use timecode with my HDXs to control Virtual Vinyl (Virtual DJ). I understand the timecode part. Just not sure if you can use extrernal timecode to run all 4 decks or if you have to have 2 decks time code x 2 decks on the jog wheels. I am hoping someone has tried to do this, particularly with vinyl turntables. That's kind of my dream set up. I did find this, but it says you can only use a 2 deck setup when you hook up the timecodes.

So I wouldn't need a secondary i/o sound card for the CD time code to be recognized? How about with TTs, or would it still be the same because it's time coded?
 
The djdad page explains it well.

The VMS4 sound card can be switched between 8 out - which allows four VDJ decks to be output (4 x L+R channels), or 4 out mode - which gives you 4 outs and 4 ins, which is exactly what you need for time code. The time codes have to go in to the computer first, to control the file you're playing, then back out so you can hear the music.

WHAT!!? does that mean i have to purchase another audio card? I plugged everything in and I hear the noise from me vynil coming out of the speakers. How do I connect them to the VMS4? Can any one help me??
 
So now my opinion is to use 4 decks in virtual DJ 2 on the VMS 4 and 2 on your CDjs oder TTs you should buy the NI audio 8 DJ or now it has been replaced of audio 10 DJ this soundcard allows you to use 8 line ins and 8 outs this is what you need to control your TTs


Another thing if you only hear The timecode signal you have forgot to switch to 4 out mode nw you can only use you Vms4 as a normal Controller but with bigger Jogs :D (the Turns )
