In an effort to reduce space on my hd I am converting some vids i have in mpeg2 to mp4, need help with setting though. Take a look below

If the program you're using only uses CBR or does 1-pass your video quality is going to be far less than it should be. Additionally, preserve the input framerate and don't resample the audio, leave it as 48000hz or it will sound terrible. Constant Quantizer makes far more sense than video bitrates - bitrate is important when size is important, i.e. to fit on a CD or stream on a 512kb internet connection, but your software doesn't seem to support it.
 
try out this program i use its called (format factory) it formats any & everything under the sun. ohhh yeah and its free. just google it
 
I agree about same framerate as source vid

Andrew87- can you recommend of a program that can use Constant Quantizer and convert from any codec to mp4. I tried Handbrake (and love the exported video quality) but it would crash on some vids.

Hi David, Handbrake is a good software and supports this feature (it's called constant quality) - I believe Handbrake uses ffmpeg or mencoder, updating to the latest version may help with your crash issue. Constant Quality ranges from 0 (lossless, the filesize will be huge) to 51 (low quality). Handbrake's documentation recommends a value of around 20 but it's worth experimenting to find the value you find best compression/quality.
 
I agree with Andrew here. For conversion I always use Handbrake. Just take your time to READ the guides (online, google, handbrake webste, etc.) and you'll find setting up the software is actually easier than you thought!
