Topic: Finally Getting NS7 Started

Looked around the forum and really could not find a straight answer.

Finally after many months I'm about to get my NS7 going with VDJ. Still in the crate and of course came with Itch.

Reading many of Cstoll notes and unless I misunderstood he mentions several times to make sure Itch is updated because it will push necessary updates (if any) to the NS7?

I'm looking to install Itch to the same laptop where VDJ resides. My biggest concern is by installing Itch will it affect VDJ in any way?

I've even seen comments from some saying that they open Itch to let it sit in the background and using VDJ at the same time? If so, the programs do not conflict with one another trying to control the NS7?

Oh yes the NSFX is being shipped. Should I hold off until it arrives to get it all installed at the same time? Does it really matter?

Also any other suggestions that you may think of in helping me getting the NS7 all fired up will be extremely helpful!! :)

OBTW will be using it for video as well.

I use the NS7 and i usually dont have itch open i just use VDJ. To answer your questions you do need to have itch installed on computer make sure its the latest itch installed. Itch and VDJ will not conflict at all as itch is required to be on computer in order for VDJ and NS7 to work correctly. As for NSFX you can add that after it has arrived you dont have to wait for it to arrive. Just Plug the NSFX and the driver will be loaded if it is a PC not sure of the MAC. If you go on youtube there some videos by DJ Esco as he can also show you some info on the NS7 and VDJ installation.

The reason people did this is to get the Mic to work on VDJ 6. You don't need itch open or even installed for VDJ 7 to function with the NS7. I used my main gig machine for over a year without ever installing itch.

It is just a recomended install as new firmware is distributed through itch. That being said, firmware and drivers have not been updated in over a year. Only updates to itch itself, for the NS7 have happened in the last year.

All I have to recomend is that I hope you have a fast PC...
 
No, you don't have to open Itch with VDJ, thats a crazy concept, but yes, install it and update it along with the latest Numark drivers.
The NSFX I always just plug in ( USB ) after VDJ is running, it lights up, you then have to cycle the knobs ( A - B ) from left to right, then the assign them ( A - B ).
Your settings in config will be : Mic , Headphones, then ASIO with NS7 in the window to the right.
The mic has a slight delay in it, but works non the less.
All you need to do after that is load up your samples and effects and enjoy!

Did you get a case? If not check out Odyssey, I've got two of their black flight glide cases and they are awesome.
12 Inch Skins has some very cool skins out now for the NS7 also, and you can create your own.
There was also a posting on here a while ago about the chrome platter discs like Esco's, I haven't been able to find it since cause I would like a pair of those.
Oh yeah, about your laptop.... hook everything up first and let us know how you make out. Maybe that wont be an issue...

Make sure You Get The (NS7 Mapper) that DJ Esco made its the most up to date mapper for ns7 i also use itch & VDJ never have any problems if you want send me a personal message & i can email you the ns7 mapper (if you cant find it)

Thanks for the great input. I did get the latest version Itch and got it working first to push what ever updates it had. Then proceeded with the DJ Esco mapper and fired up VDJ for videos. Everything so far running very well!! Now waiting on the NSFX and that will make it a done deal!

Finally able to get the NSFX going and for some reason it just loops anything I do with the NSFX controls. Here is the mapping.


Is there something else that I need to do to get the effects working?
 
Not sure I understand what you mean, the sampler works but the effects don't. And they loop with every push of the button?
 
@DJECoast; You right I should've been more specific. It does not use any of the samplers or effects. It's using the track being played to apply loops and no matter left or right of the controls.

The FX knob when turned somehow is trying to select loop numbers 2-4-6 & etc. The FX Mix Slide when moved also moves the crossfader. The FX silver button is acting like the in or out of the loop and the tap button sort of the same but definitely linked into something to do with loop functionality.

So for some reason the NSFX is just controlling the functions for loops and nothing else.
 
@DJECoast; got it to work. I re-read your previous note and I had skipped the part about knobs A & B. So I can now scroll the effects using the NSFX. I notice the tap button continues to blink. Is that a norm? Especially since the NS7 already has a tap button.

The only thing now is I do not know how to get it to switch from effects to the samplers so I can select them. Is that what the tap button should be used for? or is there something else I need to do?

To switch between Sampler and Effects you just push down on the selection knob. I never use the Tap button, and it will blink now and then.
