Hey guys, I'm doing a luau in a few weeks and wanted some in sights if I should rent a sub our I should I be ok with my mackie thumps their 15in powered at 400watts. The contractor said their should be about 150 people their. I'm not shure on the location as how I'm going to set up but wanted to know if I'm ok with what I have? I already shorted myself for the gig it's about 50miles away and it's for 6hrs and I quoted him 300 total. Their is also going to be hula girls dancing so I don't know if I need to provide sound for them but the owner of the hula dancers is the one that got the gig for me so I feel bad charging her to do sound for them. what's your opinion?

Thanks

I've got a pair of Tapco Thumps ( 320 W ) and wouldn't do a gig without subs. Mackie SRM1801 18in 1000W Powered Subwoofer Black $700 from Guitar Center.
Good luck!

I would get a sub, look at it this way, if you risk it and blow them up by the time you fixed them you would of been half way there to buying one.

Thats what I did, actually I blew mine up twice ant the were B&C equipped meaning I could of just bought a sub for how much repairing my tops cost.

I have 2 yamaha br12's & do not have a sub yet...I have done gigs of up 2 150 ppl with them, with no complaint. I am saving up 2 add a sub 2 it. So if u have the extra cash 2 spend then yes get one. If not I wouldn't sweat it 2 much right now. Just know that you do need 2 intend on getting one soon enough.

@ DJ East Coast.. You know those Thumps are really 150 watts Rms for the lows and the highs are 50 watts Rms. If your going to do a party with a large crowd, make sure you raise the speakers at a good height. The bottom of the speaker while its on the tripod should be at least 5 1/2 feet or more.

Ya I know that I need a sub. That is on my to buy list along with some other goodies but went to guitarcenter and tested a few but this one right here is it (http://m.guitarcenter.com/Mackie-HD1801-Powered-Subwoofer-105773436-i1504455.gc#features)
This baby gave me the wood after hearing that sucker punch. But the down side I think is it's size and weight for a mobile Dj that uses a suv to transport all my gear. I might end up getting the duel 12s from QSC. Its more on the compact side and weighs a lot less. But who know just gonna have to see when the time comes. So thanks for all of the advice so with that said Practice and enjoy guys!!!

While we are on the subject of Subs,

Has anyone heard the new truesonic alto professional line of subs, there is a 15" and an 18" rated at 600w RMS at a very reasonable price but the chance of me hearing one here in Cyprus is zero, in fact pretty much the only subs you can get here that arnt for installations are the DB technologies and FBT Subs.

I need something for beach parties and the odd live music gig where we need a bit more umph.

Cheers

John
