I'd like to think I know my way around Virtual DJ and the plugins pretty well (running up-to-date v. of Numark CUE edition) - I'm hosting a Masterclass at my branch of NADJ (National Association Of Disc Jockeys) on Wednesday. Presenting a whole host of hints and tips, got all mine listed to demonstrate... Just so I don't miss any, what ones would you guys suggest? Favourite tweak, trick or tip - just one, what would it be?

Read the manual every 6 months and when the new version is released, as you progress with your understanding of the software and your djing skills, the information in the manual will become increasingly more meaningful, and you will be able to put that knowledge into your performance.

I love the Echo V2 audio effect because you don't have to wait for a break when mixing. You can create your own break with it to mix in something or when you have a BPM transition that you can't blend together.

A big, fat and interesting DJ style sample (ie, your voice (or even better, a sexy laydees ) saying something interesting over some sound effects) when you suddenly need a big change in tempo and styles.

Fair do's, good point - only fair. (I suppose I was trying to throw out the posit to see what random and practical tricks people had come up with on their own without any prompting.)
I primarily use video in my gigs, my personal favourites for video DJ's are:
** When using the ShowLogo plugin, create a image in your favourite graphics software, up to the resolution you're outputting to. Using white, or prefered chromakey colour, to fill the majority of the image, design overlayed top-and-bottom frame borders, detailing company and contact details; design 'hearts and flowers' overlay for Valentines (transparancy set to a lower setting, of course) - the point is, the 'logo' does not have to occupy just the bottom corner and, with a bit of creativity, some great visual effects can be designed.
** If you work in multiple venues, create a dedicated 'elements' folder within your CUE / VV Documents folder, containing your Scrolltexts, 3D Texts, slideshows, graphics... When you load one preset using the browser within CUE / VV for one plugin, when loading up for another, the software will automatically look in the last 'recent place' you selected from - this saves hunting and selecting for separate elements, they'll be able to be located and ran quicker.
** In Slideshow, select an image pre-created in your preferred image creation software, with details on how people can get in messages to the screens and with a black framed bar running across the screen. In this space, prior to the gig, line up ScrollText to sit directly on top of this bar with 'Background' selected (to the colour selected in the image you've created). Type in the messages you're given... a simple visual for shouts and messages-to-screen.
Don't know if I've explained these very well, it's 5am, I got in from a gig an hour ago, and I'm half-asleep. But I wanted to show that, yeah, I have gotten a couple of ideas already, thanks - just reaching out to the fine and generous users out there and finding what they might have picked up along the way, too...

This is not a deliberate plug for Firetext, just something I think new users should be aware of if your wanting to give out practical tips and hints,
@Thumbsucker, After reading all of that I can't understand why you haven't even mentioned or why you blanked the benefits of the all in one free plugin from Firetext, or did you not know of it, it does all of the above including scrolling vertical and horizontal text.
Single images or multiple image files to screen.
Plus it will send flash/video files to screen, why have a static logo when you can have a moving one, plus it's great for adverts as well, instead of using clipbank, include the camera tab (only function that will display small Firetext logo) and you have a great all round plugin.
Set up templates for future use.
Best thing about it it's totally free to VDJ users and there are no brand pop ups showing throughout your show, head here for the free plugin....

When used in conjunction with the other effects you mentioned and your imagination, you can come up with stunning shows on screen.
The only part that isn't free to use is the sms to screen, but if you are anyone else is interested I can work out a great deal for you.

I'm more than aware of Firetext, it's a stunning plugin, brilliantly written and implemented and from around £150, it's affordable, too. I merely listed a way of using existing plugins and putting messages to the screen, in a truly free method, in a customizable way. Yup, it can be fiddly and it takes a bit of work away from doing the actual DJ'ing, but, as I'm wanting to pass on tips and hints to those opening Virtual DJ / CUE for the first time 'out of the box', I find it's one way to get text-to-screen in as effective way as possible.
Oh, and listing 'all of that'? I'd like to think I barely got started - it'd be a pretty short masterclass if that's all I had. I just hoping that established users and fellow forum users were up for passing on one or two tips themselves. Hey, you've got 20 hours or so if you want to jump in...
EDIT: Just to clarify, the 'Firetext' plugin IS free to download and install - but requires Firetext itself to get SMS to screen, that's where the £150+ comes in...
