Hi All,
I'm sure this post will be something close to a cliche on these boards, knowing this I'll continue. I fell in love with trance when I spent some time in Israel as a kid and have yet to stop listening, however I never bothered learning to mix / dj in my spare time. So here I am, years later finally getting the itch and needing advice. Keep in mind, I'm literally just beginning so I was hoping for some guidance on equipment, software, etc. I'm not looking to go pro, make money or anything of that sort .... just for my own pleasure. Instead of just listening I figured mixing would be far more enjoyable.
I have this to start ....
Macbook Pro
Virtual DJ 6
5.1 Surround Sound Speakers
Beats by Dre Headphones (in ear)
and that's it .... not much I know. Any suggestions on purchases from here? Deck of some sort I would imagine? 2?
Thanks in advance.

Hi mate
Cliche it may be, but everyone has to start somewhere :-)
I would suggest you take a look at buying one of the all in one controler/soundcard units (These can be found in the Products/Hardware section). Something like the MK4 Hercules Console or Numark Mixtrack Pro would be a great place to start and won't break the bank. This comes with an LE edition of VDJ and has everything you need to get started.
Install the software, plug in the unit, plug in the speakers and headphones. Its that simple! Then your ready to start. Above all have fun!
Once your up and running, happy with what your doing and decide to go further, then you can upgrade to the PRO version of VDJ. This lets you have full downloading privilages and added flexibility.
Software updates are free so you wont get left behind.
Good Luck

Thanks for the quick response.
I've played around w VDJ 6 for a bit and I'm slowly getting the hang of it. Having said that, I find using the mouse to sync, etc rather annoying which is what prompted my question as to what gear I should get. With this additional detail .... still feel the same approach is accurate?
Regards.

Hi mate.
The RMX is a great little console and would do the job fine.
Note tho that the seller is not showing any information on weather he is providing the VDJ LE disc that would have been supplied with the unit. Even if he is going to give you the disc, the software can only be registered once. If the seller has already registered the software you would not be able to register it to you and so would have problems with installing any updates that come allong.

Thanks for the suggestion. I was able to get a free version of VDJ 6 and I believe it will still pull updates from the server. That said, the CL ad already flipped the deck prior to me being able to email. Anyone selling a used deck that would fit someone like myself? Paypal?
Thanks,
Thanks,

There has never been a free version of VirtualDJ v6. The first version of VirtualDJ Home FREE was v7.0
If you like VirtualDJ, please support it and its future development by purchasing it: http://www.virtualdj.com/products/comparison.html
Or if you are just using it for fun at home, you can download the latest Home FREE v7.0.3 from http://www.virtualdj.com/download/free.html
This is free to use for non-commercial use only using your mouse and keyboard to mix (MIDI controllers and timecode are not supported, except for 10 minutes as a trial of he full VirtualDJ Pro.) VirtualDJ Home FREE cannot be used at DJ gigs where you are being paid.

Okay, trance huh? You have completed the first step in becoming a beginner DJ. Identifying what type of music you would like to play. Next you need some equipment. I am definitely going to recommend the Numark Mix Track Pro. You may be wondering, why not the regular old Numark Mix Track. Well... the answer to that is the Numark Mix Track Pro has a built in sound card so you don't have to buy one! Great, you have some speakers and someone in-ear headphones. These are essential to becoming a DJ. If you don't have a laptop, consider getting one so it is easy to carry around rather than a desktop computer. Guess what else you are going to need, Music! Now you probably won't want to get music from sharing websites like Limewire, Frostwire, MP3Rocket, etc, because... the quality isn't always great. So get your songs (if you have the money) from the iTunes Store and other websites like AmazonMP3. Start buying the Hits, favorites, or just any trance music you like, the bigger your library the better. So start building it now, and in a year you will be surprised how large it has grown. Next, just start messing around with your new equipment! Have a question? Feel free to ask any of us on these Forums, any one here would be happy to help! Are you more visual? Check out some Virtual DJ Youtube tutorials. Okay, so you might think, I am really starting to like this, how can I upgrade my equipment? Well instead of getting another controller like the Hercules RMX or Numark Mix Track Pro, try getting a Professional Tabletop CD Player like the Numark NDX400. This is a great CD Player if you want to upgrade, it allows USB Thumbdrives so you can carry and store your music easily. Next, how about some Over Ear Dr. Dre Beats Headphones? Those are great, and look more professional than the in-ear headphones.
Wow, didn't think I would write all this but I wanted to help out a fellow beginner DJ. Any more questions, post back on the forums, I was going to write on and on and on, but This should get you going for a while.
Good Luck

Well first off I'd like to apologize as I may have ruffled a few feathers with my posts, clearly wasn't my intent and I can certainly appreciate the pov. That said, I will be sure to purchase the software ASAP as I do like it quite a bit.
As for the gear, I appreciate all the advice and I'm still looking for the best deal. I came across 2 STANTON C304 CDJ Turntables and a mixer for $400 in solid condition but again I struggle to ass the value of such a purchase.
Thoughts?
Regards.

i woud't personally stat with CDJ because you get more out of Controller for that price but CDJ are great if you have the money especially pioneer cdj 2000.
If you go for the CDJ's I would look at reviews first

Seems like a good website, but i dont know the quality of the music itself, being a DJ, I ALWAYS want the best for my listeners.
