My buddy of mine left his laptop here for months. He also just so happened to have Virtual DJ Pro, and I had quite a bit of fun making some mixes through his crappy laptop speakers. He had his little USB sound card which would allow me to listen to the track I was getting ready to cue up. I JUST got in the mail today, American Audio VMS4. And it seems like a marvelous tool. Now, keep in mind, I really know nothing about the "science" of how everything works.
Here is my ideal set up: I would like to, of course, keep my VMS4. I just want a nice little basement set up for my own personal use. I want Virtual DJ to be used as a program that will allow me to visually see my songs and cues so I know when to start, as well as my source of music to play. But I want all my sound coming from a decent pair of speakers. Does this make sense? Do speakers literally just plug into the mixer itself? Or do I need an amplifier of some sort? I need some basic tutorial advice on getting a nice little setup with really only using Virtual DJ as a host for my music and so I can see the tracks visually.

Well you're half way there. All you need is (opt 1) a pair of small powered speakers or (opt 2) a small amp and some small pasive speakers. You will also need the cables to connect which ever option you go with.
you can go directly from the VMS4 to powered speakers or a amp.

You can connect virtually any pair of speakers to your mixer.
If you are planning to purchase speakers, I recommend powered studio monitors. I have the iKey-Audio 6" monitors and the bang for the buck is amazing. They usually sell them individually (be careful) and I got mine for $240 for the pair. Very good quality sound for making mixes.
But if you have at least some decent computer speakers or better, those will do just fine. You just need the right cables and adapters.

Awesome! What about headphones as well? What are you guys using?
Okay, and I have one thing... Virtual DJ has been bugging me. My set up right now, is using my computers 4.1 surround card, and ill drop a single track in, and the sound will be just fine. Then, Ill drop a second track in, sounds great. But as SOON as I touch my mixer in anyway, the sound gets so fricking garbled that it just doesnt make sense... Also, when I mess with my lows, i cant change the individual decks highs and low. I have to click the small "cue" button to make that track active, THEN do it. If deck A is my active track, on my mixer I can change the Highs, Mids, Lows with either channel 2 OR 3. Stupid. I cant find any other way to key them up so they just work independently.
Personally, I dont flippin care how anything looks on VDJ, just as long as when I get my speakers, it will be pushing it through the mixers sound card, and then all my knobs will work INDEPENDENTLY from VDJ, right? The only thing VDJ will be there for, is to show me my song visually and allow me to put new songs into decks, right?

Also, should I be aiming at a studio monitor, or a PA?
http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/Behringer-EUROLIVE-B210D-Active-PA-Speaker-System?sku=620522
There is a powered PA, 200 bucks.
Or, for the same price

Just a little studio monitor.
Should I basically just go with the PA? Just in case I ever do host a little party?

Headphones, I'm using Technics RP-DH1200. They are pretty solid.
PA speakers will get the job done if you want them to perform double duty. Studio monitors are more for the critical listener and they take up less desk space.
PA speakers depends on how many people you plan to serve and how much desk space or real estate you have next to your desk to sit em. Those PA speakers are 10", I usually recommend 12" for better bass in a party unless you got a sub.
