*NS7+Sub+Speakers*

Hi Guys
I went from two Yamaha s115v and QSC GX5 amp to one Harbinger 18 Inch Sub (HP118S) paired with two Harbinger Hp112 speakers. So one sub and two speakers:)

At first I was connecting xlr out from ns7 to sub and rca out from the ns7 to amp than yamaha speakers and the sub seemed to be louder in terms of base. You feel it alot, with the volume on the sub at 12 and the volume on the ns7 at 12.

Now Im connecting XLR out from the ns7 to Sub, than out from the sub to the powered speakers. The sub doesnt not seem as loud, (the base does not seem as strong)

In the back of the Sub there is inputs XLR and two out puts, but also there are hi pass out puts. According to the diagram it says to connect your speaker to the high pass out puts on the subs. Is this the best way to set up the speakers. Also the on the speaker low cut is turned off. I have never owned powered speakers before so Im just trying to get the best sound out of them . It may seem easy but i just dont get it and spend two hours trying to get the best sound. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

The hipass filter outputs are to send mid and hi frequency's to you tops, personally i prefer a full range signal so i'd use the other outputs but that's me, try them both and see what you like best.

Low cut is simply cutting the low frequency from the speaker, if this is switched on, on the sub, then switch it off.

Better to go from mixer to sub and then to tops, it's how it was designed to be daisy chained.

Thanks for your quick reply.
When I was doing different tests configurations. I noticed that with the NS7 having two master out puts (one rca one xlr) i connected the sub on the xlr outputs of the ns7 and my old amp on the rca outputs of the ns7 with the yamaha speaker. With this configuration the sub seems to be alot more powerful. When connecting through xlr to the sub and than to the new powered speakers the sub seems weaker, not as punchy.
Do you suggest that I purchace rca to xlr and connect powered sub from the xlr out put and the powered speakers from the rca output of Ns7?

As soon as I plug those powered speakers on the sub it seems to decline in power..(not as loud or punchy) Or is this normal....the good thing about this is that the sound seems more balanced. But to get it just right powered speakers have to be at 12 oclock and subs power dial at 3 clock.

Should I leave everything at 12 o clock as well as the master volume on the ns7?

Thanks any advice is appreciated.

The output on the ns7 like any mixer is a signal frequency's only and don't effect the power of your speakers. Your still in passive mode, in your head! it's not like daisy chaining passive speaker etc

The power comes from the built in amp within the speaker it's self, all it needs is a signal to amplify.

I always use xlr outs as their the pro solution, you will have near zero interference from other leads and mobile phones etc plus its a better signal.

Mixer, sub, top via xlr, best way

This is how you hook it up. I checked out the Harbinger sub tech specs. The XLR out of the NS7 to the Harbinger Sub XLR input. The XLR Out of the Sub that's Not Hi Pass. Its the One under the Hi Pass, " Outputs " To your powered speakers.

The top output is a Hi output and the one under it is a Full Range output. This harbinger sub is reallay good. If you like the QSC KW181 sub, you will like this one.

Thanks Caliente,

Exactly what I said but in more detail.

Thanks guys. I appreciate your thoughts, took your advice and trying them at a gig right now. Sounds tight. Thanks again.
