I'm planning to buy one of these so I need to know few things about these two. I know that they're very different but mostly I'd like know few basic things about them. This deck will be the first I'm buying and I decided to buy a decent one, not any toy like the mixtrack pro..
Can you use the vms4 as a all-in-one deck with its mixer with like two power monitors an a power sub? I've read that the output in the vms4 isn't that good at all so I have some doubts for this.
How about Hercules? Is the output in it even crappier, bacause its cheaper or is the vms4 just so bad in that area?
I would also like to know how can you add a mixer between the deck and the monitors?
And all kinds of comments for plusses and minuses are welcome!
Thanks!

these r midi controllers, all of their outputs are going to be relatively. so you will have to use an amp for most of the time.

You can search the forums as everybody's sick to death of explaining such things, sorry pal.

Hi teisk4
I can't help with the hercules but I used to own a VMS4 and can offer this advice.
It is basically like a traditional 4 chanel mixer with 4 separate sound cards from the computer to each channel. Alot of controllers use the computer to do the mix etc this dose not. It sends the audio to each sound card so it then comes through one of the channels so you then mix it or send it to the headphones in the traditional way.
If you use the computer to do your mix and it crashes then everything stops. With this you can have a sandby CD/ipod or similar as a backup in case this happens then just play in as a back up.
The VMS4 is REALLY WELL made. It is no toy. It is a solid metal construction and a DREAM to work on. The supplied VDJ lite allows only 2 decks on VDJ but if you have a pro licence it will allow 4 channels easily.
NOW THE BAD NEWS - the VMS4 has quite a few technical issues that are still unresolved - despite the manufactures playing them down.
1. The mic inputs don't have enough head room - most mics will distorte if you speak loudly through them (note I say loudly not shout)
2. Main Output - lack of volume/power on balanced output for some amps
3. Main Output - lots of background dirty noise caused by cross contamination - need to turn the amps down and the mixer right up - not ideal
4. Lack of headphone volume - my Sony headphones were fine but my backup pair aren't loud enough when the volume is up in the height of a party
I would suggest you have a look on the manufatures web site forum for this item - they are playing the problmes down offering impedance matching transformers for the mics and an increased voltage power supply - if you can live with this then I would say its a fantastic bit of kit and a joy to work on - BUT be warned.

In reply to your second point you don't need a mixer as the VMS4 is the mixer.
As for your last point you will need a separate amp (or powered speakers) as the output is line level or balance.
My advice is don't buy at the moment - if they bring out a version without the problems its abeauty - I sold mine as I couldn't put up with it.
Hope this helps.
