Don't purchase VirtualDj! I've had nothing but awful experiences with this piece of software. The software is mediocre compared to DeckaDance or Traktor at almost twice the price! The interface is sloppy, the effects are minimal, And when I purchased their iRemote app and tried to discuss it on these forums my topics just get locked without reasoning. I also tried contacting the actual company too with no response. In other words support for VirtualDj is frustrating to say the least. So go for something else, DeckaDance is only $99 and is infinitely better. Of course this post is probably going to get deleted because this forum is run by power-hungry ego-centric moderators that don't seem to know anything about running a forum (and yes I've had years of experience in running well maintained forums).

Of course it's worth pointing out that this is all in your opinion and that the software you should use is actually dictated by your own personal needs. If deckadance suits you and VDJ is so bad then perhaps you should have thought about that before purchasing the remote.

You're upset because users of VDJ Home who have purchased the remote don't currently get skins for free. I don't know anything about this I'm afraid - I don't work for Atomix and I don't have any 'i' devices. It's worth bearing in mind that the product has literally just launched so some things may require tweaking. Historically though, addons, skins and so on have been reserved for users who have actually purchased the core VirtualDJ application.

The VDJ interface is fine, I use a minimal skin that I designed for exactly my purposes. That's one big benefit - customisability. There's nothing 'sloppy' about it.

Effects are not minimal - I can use VST or VDJs own effects (which you don't have access to) for audio, and VDJs own effects and FreeFrame for video. Doesn't seem minimal to me - in fact I'm not sure what else they could really support. That means they support more FX than your beloved Traktor or Deckadance.

To me deckadance and traktor are actually inferior and as they are now they would be a backwards step for me.

As for posts getting deleted, well I can assure you that never happens. Ever. Unfortunately I don't know who locked your skin topic, however in the event of a complaint the best course of action is to actually contact Atomix directly and wait for their response. Whilst you say you have contacted them without response you haven't given them very long to respond, especially given the weekend and the doubtless increased support from 2 product releases.

I wouldn't describe any of the moderation team as power hungry or ego centric - although IMHO there is a certain amount of ego that goes with being a DJ. We also have fairly limited powers - the teamers and Atomix staff have the real power round here ;)

you don't even have a vdj license listed under your user name to claim that you bought the software!
Just because you paid $10 for the iremote and run it on some bootleg copy of vdj and couldn't get it to work does not mean that the application does not work.

If your so happy with deckadance and traktor then stick to it, it's that simple! nobody is holding a gun to your head telling you to use VDJ

I'd like to take this chance to point out that everyone should remain polite and respectful to all users regardless of their license status.

It's also worth nothing that the VDJ remote works with the free VDJ Home v7.0.2 edition.

Sorry for sounding harsh in my first post I was just frustrated with only getting my threads locked instead of having an actual discussion. I was also angry due to the fact that I had been waiting for the app for a while and was excited on the prospect of the customization and was quite disappointed when I found out I couldn't. I take back most of my arguments on limited effects and the user interface, there ok I guess. Yes I know these are all opinions, I just thought I would voice them for those that wanted to know. As for contacting the company, I'm perfectly fine with waiting a few days, even a week, however the form says most are answered in the hour, so I feel that's misleading. As for the moderators most are fine I just hate when topics get locked without a post on reasoning, and when moderators talk down to other users. And no I don't have a pirated version I don't know why everyone on the forums assume that. And I would prefer to not be discriminated based on what license I have, it gives the company you are fighting for a bad name. Anyways thanks for actually responding instead of locking my thread. I hope they change the restrictions on skins but personally I will probably just go back to DeckaDance.

No problem :)

Good luck with deckadance, there's nothing about it that really grabs me I'm afraid. In fact the only things I can see it does that VDJ doesn't is work as a VST plugin (no use to me, but I can always use rewire with VDJ) and the relooper which actually looks quite cool (like an extended version of VDJs beatgrid plugin).

I couldn't even consider another solution unless it had both video support and a decent API. What is important for me won't be important for you however!

I added some things to my apologizes so if I offended anyone else im sorry if I left you out. Anyways good luck with VDJ, im heading back to DeckaDance.

Sorry if I offended anybody with my reply, It just gets me angry when someone bashes VDJ when they can't configure it correctly. So many people read this forums daily looking to help and instead of asking us nicely for help people bash away. Anyway I went ahead and bought the APP about 30 minutes ago, I loaded it up to my IPOD touch and my VDJ Pro 7.0.2 found my IPOD without a problem and I started mixing right away with. Pretty cool APP I must say, I'm already dreaming of all the cool things I could do using it on an IPAD since the screen on the Touch is a bit small for me.

Make sure you have the following setup...
1) Make sure Bonjour is installed onto your laptop, Bonjour is installed by Itunes so if your not sure that bonjour is installed reinstall Itunes.
2) Make sure both your laptop and Ipad / Iphone are connected on the same WIFI network

Like I said it was very easy for me to connect, it took me less than 5 minutes to download the app to my Ipod touch and connect VDJ with my Ipod. Anyway good luck.

FYI for those people who love Traktors effects which we all know are pretty amazing. Native intruments offers Traktors effects in a VST plugin called Traktors 12
http://www.native-instruments.com/#/en/products/producer/powered-by-guitar-rig/traktors-12/
In theory these effects should work in Virtual DJ since is supports VST plugins, I haven't tried it myself but I will buy the VST plugin when I have some extra cash to burn.

Just for fun, I connected my wifes IPOD touch so now I can control VDJ with 2 IPODS!!! This is amazing, I can imagine all the possibilities running multiple Ipads/Iphones/Ipods. Thank you VDJ team =)

Nice set up.

Its important to note that iremote is available to anybody and will work with the 7.0.2 version, this includes Home Free, Broadcaster, Basic and Pro.

So before you bash and assume someone is using a bootleg copy, please don't.

I do not know what the future holds for skins for LE users (including Home Free), but as with all of our skins and plug ins these are awarded when the LE software is upgraded. The fact that a user has spent a one time $9.99 for an app. doesn't open those doors at this time.
There has to be some incentive left to upgrade the software, or Atomix is just giving away the farm.
As it is, Home Free and the free updates are extremely generous and I know of no other company that does this.

Please look at and understand the WHOLE picture before we start throwing stones and post this kind of thing.

And Happy Holidays

That would be great if it worked that way, but I'm pretty sure you'll have to buy another $NI$ program along with the traktor 12 to be able to use them.

I can find nowhere the label "VST" in their webpage. Instead, it only says that at least Guitar Rig player is required, thus it is a proprietary plugin and not a standard VST.

I really don't get the idea of controlling VDJ with an Ipod; it is too small to do anything; I mean it is like a toy. I just don't get it. I will only be controlling VDJ with a DJ controller like the NS7 not a phone.

Some people never got CDJs or MIDI controllers when they first came out. New ways of DJing are almost never understood by the masses when they are first introduced.

Iphone screen is very small but imagine it with a bigger ipad....or how about 3 ipads....2 for decks and one for the mixer. Imagine sitting at the bar with an ipad controlling vdj.

The concept and general purpose of any REMOTE application is just that - to remotely control an application or device that it is connected to.
It is not intended to be a complete replacement of the actual device or application that is being controlled.

With that said, the VirtualDJ iRemote is there to assist DJs that would like to have some of that separation from behind the DJ booth and be able to simple but effective actions with VirtualDJ. For mobile DJ's this will be a great tool where you can be on the dance floor where you are showing people how to do a line dance, or wedding DJs that need to get to a specific area of the reception hall to make sure the cake cut or other wedding activity is MC'd well, etc.

Though people want to take it to another level where you don't even have to be in the booth - well I just don't see that happening to often. The people want to see the DJ working the music and making the night fun. They don't want to see a guy sitting at the bar playing with an iPad/iPhone/iPod all night.

It's a convenience thing - not a replacement to doing what we all should be doing and that is making magic with music.

You said it my friend IMAGINE, some people just lack imagination.

I for one am glad that VDJ is a forward thinking company. Like now providing us with 99 decks.. who is really going to use it? Well, those of us who have imagination.

I invite you all to unlock your mind first, don't sit back and think "it can't be done" or "this is useless" cuz then the japanese win!

hahahaha, ok, sorry about the "japanese" thing, just thought it sounded funny.

But seriously, the sky is the limit if you just open your mind.

I think it would be fun to take an IPAD with me and dance around the dance floor and letting the people dancing mix in the next song after I cue it up of course so it wouldn't sound like a train wreck. I can let the slide the crossfader over once I have cued up the next song, that could be pretty cool, they can feel like they are a part of the show.

TexZK, its true it does not say anything about being a VST plugin but if you read closely it says "DJ effects in your DAW" the only way I know to get pluing into you DAW is if it's a VST.

Anyway, I downloaded the Demo to try my theory out and the Guitar Rig player runs everything, you can run it standalone or you can run the VST plugin.

When I installed the program, I installed the VST plugin to my virtual DJ plugins directory.

I opened up VDJ and the program itself did see the VST plug-in but I could not get it to run....so there goes my theory out the window, hey at least I tried it =)

I was able to run the guitar player stand in stand alone mode and I was able to play with traktors 12 that way, im pretty sure you can get it all working if you do some advance sound card configurations and using the guitar player in stand alone mode to access Traktors 12 effects.

Of course there is still incentive, all I'm asking is that the iRemote skins be free, nothing else. I would even be wiling to pay a little extra to get skins for iRemote, but with the default skin the app is almost unusable.

Lets put it this way. Lets say I buy a remote for my TV that doesn't have a cable service. I'm not saying that buying the remote entitles me to free cable service, thats ridiculous. But I shouldn't have to pay extra to reprogram my remote should I?

I just don't get why you have to discriminate against the users, like me, who can't afford your software, which in my opinion is WAY overpriced compared to your competitors.
