I just got a 2tb Western digital essentials drive. It spins at 7200 rpm and is connected to my laptop via usb2. The problem I'm having is after loading it up with mp3 & vob files, vdj crashes while trying to scan the vob files. The mp3's scanned with no problem. I can get it to scan if I load 2 vob files in the decks and then highlight the test of the files in that folder and Bpm scan. It will do anywhere between 2 to 25 files before it locks up and has to be shut down and restarted. Never had this problem before and wondering if it's vdj 7 or the drive .

Correction on the hard drive model. It is the Western DigitAL elements 2tb.

Maybe this is not related to your issue, but i would suggest to format the disc before start loading files. Some pre-installed backup softwares are useless in case of simple storage and may cause some troubles.
