Hi all, I'm new to this and have a few questions.
I have the Rmx and am wanting to connect it to my phonic 3 channel external mixer (as a backup with cd player, ipod just in case) and from there I have a Samson 2 channel active DI box and An Active Wharfedale 18" sub and 2 Active 15" tops. My question is is going from the rmx to external mixer. I want to use the 1/4" jacks from the rmx as they have higher output(although they are unbalanced), but the external mixer only has rca inputs. Will this reduce the signal at all? (Or will the rmx external source inputs still work if the laptop goes down?)Then from the rca on mixer to 1/4" on the di box then xlr out form di box to xlr into sub and split to the tops via xlr. I have all the necessary cables. Does this sound right or is there a better way of doing it? I know it's probably better to not have the external mixer and would make for fewer connections etc but I want something as a back up.(My first big gig my laptop crashed so there was deadly silence for what seemed like forever for it to reboot. I have since brought a new laptop but still feel better knowing i have a back up)
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

1/4" Jack to RCA leads is the way to go... You will not loose any signal and the mixer will happily receive the higher input levels.
No. The external sources will not work if the lappy goes down. Once you close VDJ the RMX will stop working.
Also, due to the poor mic input on the RMX (it's only failing) it is always best to go through an external mixer and introduce the mic at that point.
The outward connections from your mixer to your sound system are as they should have always been.
You do have two options when connecting the RMX to an external mixer:
1. Just connect the outputs 1 & 2 to a channel on your mixer and treat the RMX as 1 external input with all cueing and mixing happening on the RMX.
2. Use external mixer mode: In this mode outputs 1 & 2 are the left deck and outputs 3 & 4 are the right deck. You then connect them to 2 channels on your mixer with all cueing and mixing happening on the mixer - not the RMX). In this mode, if you ever switch to your backup CD/iPod then you don't need to swap the headphones from RMX to mixer.
You are going thr right way about this though, you will have a rock solid setup once you've got it all hooked up properly.
Hope this helps,
Roy
