Topic: Registry hack DisableBuiltinDevices in 7.0.1 - please explain

由于该帖子已年深日久,可能包含陈旧过时或描述错误的信息。

OK so there's been a VDJ update that didn't highlight the 'Download Center' button, and the 'check for updates' button in VDJ didn't recognise...

According to the list of changes there's a registry hack which is presumably a 'fix' for the issue with VDJ grabbing all the USB controllers when it's Rewire master - but no details anywhere of exactly how to use it.

So it would be very nice if someone in the know could tell the users how to apply the hack.

Thanks

Download registry Tool

Thank you very much for your extremely verbose reply which explains exactly what to do.

NOT!

Let's try again - exactly where in the registry does this hack need to be applied? Please give DETAILS.

I know how to edit the registry - I've been using PCs since the days of DOS.

In order for your customers to be able to apply this fix, we need you to tell us where the string needs to be applied!

Its pretty easy to figure out.............

The registry tool applies it for you, all you need to do is check the box and hit apply. The registry tool can be found here http://www.virtualdj.com/addons/2170/Registry_Tool.html

From your description, I don't use rewire. But I have no idea what we could gain out of this feature or how you even found that info on this feature (I read the release notes too). So I am sure you will be all set with the tool that does it automatically for you.

Ah, so Registry Tool is a specifically written add-on for VDJ that I can download from here!

Now, why couldn't djcel have written it that way, so that it could be understood?

OK - so there are tick boxes in the tool to apply the hack(s) but we still don't know any details about what they actually do, or whether we need to apply one or both....

I just happen to know about the Ableton ReWire issue because I was following a thread on it, and a hack was mentioned some time ago.

Lucky for me eh? Doesn't look like Atomix are in any rush to explain things :-)

and some users don't spend time to search (...wiki) and learn before posting. Registry hidden options are not for these kind of users and that's why they are hidden in the registry and not in the config for common users.

Omg I can't help but sit back and laugh at that 1!!! Lmao!!

It is just a clear miscommunication. I know what the reg tool is because I am here all the time.

In all fairnes, there of plenty OS reg tools on the market plus the free one on your PC. Just to play devils advocate, it was not stated to use the VDJ reg tool. In which case, he was approcing the "where do I put the reg edit" from a sensible angle even if it was a misunderstanding. No need to laugh (so to speak) at either side...

Thank you DHoude for a polite reply that is actually helpful.

Actually Mr djcel I did search when I discovered these hacks in the new VDJ, but the only reference to DisableBuiltInDevices that came up was in the posts announcing 7.0.1 in the various language forums. That's why I asked here.

And still no one has actually confirmed that these hacks deal with the specific problem of VDJ 'taking control' of connected MIDI devices when running as ReWire master, meaning that the slave application (in my case Ableton Live) has no access to it's own controllers.

The wiki only states that the use of 'DisableBuiltInDevices' stops the default definition and mapper files from loading - well my Ableton controller is highly unlikely to be amongst those default files, as it's specific to Ableton.

I would just try it, it is only a check box. You should get your answer real quick. Maybe restart after you do the reg change so that the PC grabs the controlers in the right order.

NP man, I hate taunting on forums... No need for it when you just need help. Think that is why I will never get more stars. I help plenty, but I call em like I see it. The more time we are on here, the less time we have for being creative.

though you're right DHOUDE,I'm Laughin too,but it happens...dude...Also..you should of downloaded that years ago!! as is a obvious needed application.and read up more!...there might be some more Rewire fixes in the next version of VDJ...So...

"obvious needed"?

I've been using VDJ since version 5 and I've not needed the 'registry tool' app yet, or even heard of it.

Any options for making VDJ work properly as a ReWire master should be in the program itself.

Hopefully they will be, in a future version.

Thats hard to believe but anyways just try it............I still have a few questions about it myself but I'll open another thread.

Good Luck

There shouldn't really be a need for an external registry tool. An additional tab for "advanced settings" in the config GUI would suffice.

Agreed, I would give it a plus but there are just some things that average users should not have control of. If they do, it will make support even tougher for Atomix.

BUT, I do wish there was a better way. Maybe not building in the rgistry tool, but the put another tab in called "Advanced" with some basic things and thier definition and leave out the big stuff like ignoring drives, etc. It just seems like lots of "patches" and plugins just to get full functionality. Plus this REG tool has so many options and ilogical (until you read up) answers that it gives me a headach sometimes ;)

NP, Tracker.. I don't take it personally.

All Pro users have access to the tool anyway, so I don't see the difference between having it in the main program or a seperate executable.

I dont agree. Registry Tool must remain as an external Tool. I will remind you that several unexperienced users post several times issues as software bugs, and after a few posts we discover that they have engaged features such as beatlock, smart cue, smart scratrch etc. without knowing what these do. Imagine them to play around with a dozen additional parametres. It will be a mess.
On the other side an experienced user will easily discover tools like this and try to go one step ahead. Software must be user friendly with less parametrs as possible.

Yea, "speed load" and "history timer" could be added though. Those are just a couple I would like. Maybe also settings on how VDJ default sorts paylists. Those should all be safe, others like disabling devices and drives, I fully agree.
